This invention relates to a can punching and sealing device and has for its primary object the provision of new, novel and e fective means of this character for punching a plurality of holes in thehead of a can which may be used for pourlng the contents from the can and for venting the can to permit the air to take the place of the displaced" fluid and for sealing the opemngs thus formed when the can is not .in use.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will be positive of action; one that can be actuated with utmost convenience and deslo'patch and with little manual eflort and one that can be manufactured at small cost.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which, from the nature of its construction can be kept in a sanitary condition so as not to contaminate the contents of the can with which the device is used.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts constituting the invention to be here inafter specificallydescribed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form 'a part hereof, wherein is shown the preao ferred embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the matter herein-. after claimed.

In the form shown in Figures 1 to 3 inclusive of the drawin s, we employ a hollow punching element 10 aving a diagonal cutting end 11 which, when ressed upon can be easily forced through the head of a can. The element 10 is tubular and same is curved in a lateral direction to form a pouring spout 12.
A punchin element 14 isemployed in coaction with t e element 10 and same is likewise tubular and formed at its lower end with a diagonal cutting edge 15 and at its upper end with a wall or portion 16 in which a Vent hole 17 is formed. The two matin or co-acting elements 10 and 14 are rigi y joined together by a metallic bar 18 which may be used as a hand grip when associating the device with a can; as a means to permit of its removal from the can when desired and as an anvil capable of bein struck by a hammer or tool when driving t e elements 10 and 14 through the head of the can.
In the form shown in Figures 4 to 6 inclusive of the drawings, the bar 18 has a base flange 19 through which the elements 10 andl i are extended, the said elements being of flat strip form, preferably integral with the bar 18. The lower ends of the elements 10 and 14 are formed with diagonal side edges merging into a sharp point 20 so that the elements can be easily driven into the can. The flange 19 forms a stop to limit the movement of the elements in one direction and to normally seal the opening formed thereby. The elements are further provided with straight sides 21 which act against the Walls of the formed openings to hold the elements tightly fitted therein. t
In the form shown in Figures 7 to 9 inclusive of the drawings, we employ a base section 22 and a removable top section or punch 23, the latter. formed of a single stri of metal having a transverse bar 24 an spaced apart punching or hole forming eleineuts 10 and 14". These elements can be driven into the head of a can to 'form the respective openings and same can then be removed. The base section includes tapered" hollow portions 25 and 26 adapted to be inserted in the openin s formed by said elements 10 and 14 lhese portions 25 and 26 are joined together by a rigid bar 27 having stop lugs 28 adapted to rest against the head of the can as shownin Figure 8. In this form of our invention, the portion 25 may be used as a pourin spout and the portion 26 as a vent when c lischarging the contents from the can. Normally the elements 10 and 14 may be used as plugs for sealing the 1bores of said portions 25 and 26 respective y. 7
Each of the bars 18, 18 and 24 is formed when not in use.
We claim: p A device of the type described, comprising a pair of elements for making an outlet and an inlet opening in a can, means for connecting said elements together, an outlet and an inlet pipe connected together and be ing insertable in the openings when said elements are removed, said elements being receivable in said outlet and said inlet pipes for closing the passageways and for aiding in cleaning the passageways of foreign matter.
