IMPROVEMENT IN SPECTACLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,795, dated December 7, 1875; application filed October 23, 1875. 1
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK YEISER, of Danville, in the county of Boyle and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Shade-Spectacles and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings isarepresentation oi' a top view of my spectacles. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, and Fig. 3 a plan view with lower frame E removed. Fig. 4 is a view of the removable frame E and its lens, and Fig. 5 is an end View of my spectacles.
This invention has relation to shades for the eyes; and the nature of my invention and improvement consists in arch-shaped shields or shades, which are connected together by means of a nose-bridge, and provided with spectacle-bows, as will be hereinafter explained.
The invention also consists in combining, with the shades or shields, lenses and removable frames, as will be hereinafter explained.
In the annexed drawings, A A designate two arch-shaped shields, which may be made of metal or other material, and which are connected together by means of a spectaclebridge, a. These shields are opaque, and are of such width and length that they will protect the eyes of the wearer from the direct rays of light from above. The shields A A are designed to fit snugly just below the eyebrows,
and they are held in their placesby means of spectacle-bows O O, pivoted to their outer ends.
If desirable, lenses D D may be combined with the shades A A, and these may be half or full lenses, set at the proper angle with respect to the shades. The lenses D D are confined in their places by means of bows E E, havingpinsccc attheir ends, which enterholes made through the shades A. By springing apart the ends of the shades the lenses can be removed.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, i
1. The arch-shaped shades A A, connected by a bridge, a, and provided with bows, substantially in the manner and for the purpose specified.
2. In combination with shades A A, lenses D and bows E E, secured to the shades, as described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
