ELECTRIC SAFETY RAZOR.
' Application 'led September My invention relates to electric safety razors of the type disclosed in my Patent No. 1,592,309 of July 1/3, 1926. The object of the invention is to modify and simplify the construction and arrangement, and to make the device more accessible for inspection, repairs or replacements. A

A vibratory member orarmature in the form of a bar 14 extends parallel with ,the legs and 11 and at its front end is rigidly attached to the rear end of a flat* spring 15, as by rivets 15', said spring at its front end being anchored in the slot 12 in the head 12, the armature bar beingthus adapted for lateral vibration. An energizing winding 16 for the armature bar is shown wound on the bar between the insulating end washers 17 and 18, and the outer end 19 of the armature bar is deiiected to extend between the outer or pole ends of the magnet frame legs 10 and 11. The armature bar is of soft iron.

Secured to the plate 13 against the outside thereof is a circular disc or block 24 of in'- .sulating material. This block supports the terminal pins 25 and 26. The pins at their,
outer endsare close to the axis of the block and are parallel for the reception of an extension `cord socket (not shown). The intermediate sections 'a of the pins extend diagonally through the block and the inner ends b extend througha spacer and anchoring piece 27`held against the inner side of the block 24, the terminals 28 and 29 of the energizing winding 1,6 being soldered to the terminal pins just inside of the piece 27.
VVhenthe energizing Winding is connected by'means of the terminal pins and extension cord with an alternating current circuit, the armature bar will be rapidly vibrated on account of the attraction between its en'd 19 and the adjacent permanent magnetic poles` ofthe magnet frame legs 10 and 11. The bar 20 projecting from the spring tongue 20 will partake of the armature bar vibration 4and the tool 23 will be laterally oscillated.
In order to prevent-striking or sticking of the armature end against these legs, abutments or bumpersl30 inthe form of short lengths of rubber tubing are supported on theA pins 31 and v32 extending from the plate 13 at opposite sides of the armature ends. These rubber bumpers will take the blows of the'armature and prevent noise, and are readily accessible and when Worn out can be readily replaced. The bumper supporting pins can be readily bent so that accurate adjustment can be made of the bumpers relative to the armature.
In order to protect the `operating parts and also to form a grip for the device I pro-` vide an enclosing frame of insulating material. The frame shown comprises the end or head 33 whose outer part is conical and Whose base 3.3 is exteriorly threadedl and secured against the yoke plate 12 concentric therewith. This frame end has the axial passageway 34 through whichv the tool sup-l porting rod 20 extends. The enclosing frame part in the form of a shell 35 is of an internal diameter to pass readily over the insulating block 24, and at its front end is threaded to receive the threaded base 33 of the frame end 33. At its outer end the sleeve or shell has the opening 36 .for receiving the terminal pins 25 and 2G, andA to protect against the entrance of moisture or dust, a washer 37 of rubber or other sea-ling material is interposed between the sleeve end and the block 24. To prevententrance of moisl ture or dirt through thepassageway 84 in the framepart 33 'a sealing member 38 which may be a short length of soft rubber tubing, surrounds the rod 20 and abuts against the plate 12 across the hole 21 but clear of the sides of the passageway 84.
The device is light and compact and can be conveniently used. ,The yoke and end plates l2 and 13 which are rigidly secured to the ends of the magnet legs l0 and l2 form a strong framework on which the other parts are supported and'mounted. The winding terminals are securely anchored so that a connecting plug can always be quickly and readily applied `thereto. rIhe armature abutments in the form of lrubber tube lengths can be readily applied or replaced and adjusted relative to the armature. The sealing Washer 37 and the sealingtube 38 will entirely close the housing against the entrance of moisture and dirt to the interior, and the windings and electrical circuits Will there-4 fore be fully protected.
I claim as follows: l. In a device of the class described, the combination of a magnet frame comprising a yokeplate and legs extending therefrom,
" said frame being polarized, an armaturebar havingl its outer end exposed to 'the poles of said magnet frame, a. spring secured to said yoke plate and said armature barfor supporting said bar for vibration, a tool supporting rod extending from said armature bar, and an energizing winding carried by said armature bar.

In a device of the class described, the combination of a permanent magnet frame compr1sing a yoke and legs extending therev from, an armature bar flexibly attached to said yoke to vibrate ybetween said legs with its outer end opposed to the poles of said frame, .a tool supporting post extending from the attached end of said armature bar, an energizing Winding on said armature bar, a plate of non-magnetic material secured to the pole ends of said legs, and cushioning abutments for said armature bar extending from said plate.

Ina device of the class described, the combination of electro-magnet structure comprising a yoke, magnetizable legs extending parallelly from said yoke, an armature bar springl hinged to said yoke and extending parallel with said legs, said armature at its end having polarity cooperation with said legs, an energizing winding for changing the polarity relationship between said armature andlegs, a plate adjacent to the armature To end, pins extending from-said plate, the armature end being adapted to swingl between said pins, and rubber cushioning tubes on said pins for receiving the impact of the vibrating armature during current flow thru the winding.

5. In an electric safety razor, the combination of a supporting plate, an armature bar having spring support on said platel and extending therefrom, a tool post parallel 10 with said bar and secured at its inner end thereto to vibrate therewith, means for vibrating said armature bar, said supporting plate having an opening through which said post extends, and a short length of soft rubber tubing surrounding said post and engaged against said supporting plate to seal said plate opening.

In an electric safety razor, the combination of a frame forming a grip, a vibrating bar within said frame, said frame having an opening to the exterior, a tool supporting post extending from said bar through said opening to transmit the vibration of said bar to a tool on said post, a soft rubber washer 'surroundingsaid post in front of said opening to seal said opening against entrance of moisture, dust and other foreign matter.
