This inventionv relates to reels or the class generally -used for holding clothes lines, but

'An object of the invention is to provide a durable, yet simple clothes reel, that is protected from the Weather, is portable,andthat does not too readily unwind when the clothes line is being pulled out. l* i A further object is to provide a clothes line reel in which the clothesline Will not become entangled Within the casing.

I claim:

1. A clothesline reel comprising a casing,

a shaft, a rotatable drum loosely mounted on Y said shaft, a spring surrounding said shaft, a friction brake, said brake mounted to frictionally engage said drum, a handle, a clutch, said clutch comprising fixed and movable members, said fixed members attached to said drum., said movable members attached to said handle, a catch on said casing to engage said handle and hold theclutch members out of engagement, said spring pressing' said clutch members into engagement upon the release of a shaft, a rotatable drum loosely mounted dii said shaft, a spring surrounding said shaft, a friction brake, said brake mounted to frictionally enga said drum, a loosely mounted 'lferrule on said shaft, a movable clutch member on said ferrule, a fixed clutch member on said drum,'said spring mounted between Said friction brake and said movable clutch member, a handle attached to said ferrule, a catch on said casing to engage said handle and hold the clutch members out of engagement and compress said spring thereby exerting spring pressure on said brake, said spring forcing said clutch members into engagement upon detaehing said handle from said catch.
