Y Ashas been stated in the objects of myy invention- Iintend to provide a radiator cap which may be easily attached to the filling opening but cannot be detached without reversing the position ofthe radiator or in other words turn the radiator upsidedown. At the same time the temperature indicator or motormetci is so attached to the cap as to prevent its removal after it has once been secured in position. In screwing the cap into position the teeth ot the ring` 2l will 'engage the teeth 23 ot' the ring 2O and thereby rotate the ring 20 as a part ot the cap and rscrew the same on to the radiator sleeve.
Should an attempt be made to unscrew the cap the base 2 with the ring 21 will rotate iiree from the ring 2U, the teeth 25 of the ring Q1A being allowed to ride over the teeth 23 of the ring 2O due to the play lett between the ring 21 and shoulder 18 of the base i'or the ring 20; It will therefore be seen that ab thongh the base 2 may be rotated in a direction supposedly to nnscrew the cap from the radiator never-the-less the ring 2O with the threaded extension will not be unscrcwed and therefore the nip cannot be removed 'troni the radiator. The only way in which the cap may be removed is, as previously described, by taking the radiator oit of the automobile andy tuiningthe same upsidedown. The pin 30 is normally entirely received within the opening or recess 29 of the ring 20 but when the radiator is tnrned upsidcdown a portion of the said pin 30 will drop into the recess Q7 of the ring 21 andy engage the shoulder 28. The shoulder 28 being in reverse position to the teeth 25 will, when the pin 8O engages the shoulder 28 allow the ring 2O to be turned with the base and the ring 21 carried thereby, thereby 'unscrewing said ring and its threaded extension 24 from the radiator sleeve and allowing the cap to be removed. In order that the radiator maybe readily filled, when i'ie'cessary, I prov-ide the hinged cover pivotally connected to the base and securedA in close position by the screw 31; llVhen it is desired to till the radiator the knob 32 is turned so that the screw 31 will be withdrawn from the threaded opening in the base into the recess 33 and the cover can then be swung npe'n its pivot point 4 and the radiator filled. In order to prevent the stealing of the telnperatnre indicator or motormetci I have provided the plate 11, having the inwardly extending projections 13. which is secured over the end ot' the recess 5, in the cover, and prevents any one from inserting their lingers or tools for removing the nnts 9 and 10 which secure said temperature indicator to the cap.

At the same time the inwardly extending projections 13 being circui'nterentially spaced there is nothing to prevent the ready circulation ot heat to the temperature indicator' stem and therefore the operation is not impaired in any manner. The cap as a whole may be screwed. into position by using the laterally uitzending wings or projections la as a handle or lever, although it will be understood that said projections or wings tornino particular part oit the present :invention and any other suitable design of cover may be equally as well used. As previously stated after the screws 22, which secure the ring 2l to the base 2, have been driven home the ends are tiled oli' so that they cannot be removed. The screws l2, which secure the plate 11, to the cover, preterably of the construction shown and described whereby when they are driven home the upper head, containing the slot, will be broken oli so that the screws cannot be removed.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and 'desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. In combination witha radiator having a threaded sleevearound the filling opening,
a radiator cap, said cap comprising a base, a threaded ring rotatably carried by the base and adapted to engage the sleeve, saidring having teeth thereon, a toothed ring rigidly connected to the base and adapted to engage the teeth of the rotatable ring for screwing said ring onto the sleeve but preventing rotation in the opposite direction, a pin normally carried within the rotatable ring but adapted upon reversal of the position ot the radiator to engage the teeth of the rigidly connected ring to allow iniscrewing of the cap trom the sleeve, and a cover connected to the base. i
