This invention relates to oil well pump jacks, and aims to provide a device of this character which is extremely simple in construction, and onethat transmits a straight line movement to the pump rod.

The nature and advantages of the 'invention will be better understood when the following detail descriptionis read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.

Referring to the drawings in detail, 10 represents a substantially U-shaped frame, the sides of which are extended upwardly at their forward end, and terminate to pro vide bearings 11 for the shaft 12 of a suitable drum 13. This drum is connected with the pump rod 14 by suitable means including a cable 15. This cable is bent upon itself as clearly illustrated, the looped end being clamped to the drum by a suitable block 16, while the parallel portions of this cable extend in the direction of the pump rod. Suitably coupled to the upper end of this pum rod 14 is a rod 17 of substantially T shape formation, the head 18 of which is provided with key-hole slots 19 which receive the adjacent parallel portions of the cable 15. The free ends of this cable are wedged or otherwise suitably secured to the head 18 of this rod 17. Consequently when suitable manner, I preferably make use of a cable for this purpose which is formed substantially in the same manner as the cable 15 above described. Thelooped or intermediate portion of this lastnientioned cable is passed around the block 21 which is secured to a clevis 22, the clevis in turn being connected with a power rod 23. The parallel portions of this cable 21 extend in the direction of the drum 13, each parallel portion being received in a groove 25 formed in a band or ring 26 secured to the drum. Carried by each band or ring is a hook 27 which is received by a loop 28 formed by the adjacent end of the cable 2 1. Manifestly the cable 2 1 is adapted to be wound about and unwound from tie drum 13 in order to rotate the latter in reverse directions, and thereby impart a straight line movement to the pump rod 14.
The drum 10. is mounted upon front and rear supporting legs all of which are pivotally mounted as at 29 upon suitable base pieces 30. The front pair of legs are indicated at 31, while the rear pair of legs in clude relatively adjustable sections 82 and 33 respectively. The section 82 of each leg preferably slides within the section 33, while the sections are normally held fixed relatively by any suitable means indicated at 34. However, by reason of this construction the entire jack may be shifted from its normal position illustrated by full lines in Figure 1,to an out of the way position as shown by dotted lines in Figure 1 when it is desired to pull either the pump rod or tubing. Manifestly when the jack shifted to its adjusted position the rear legs telescope for this purpose.
While it is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it known that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and de .ha'ving its intermediate portion secured to SfllClClIlllIl, and ts parallel portions adapted to be simultaneously Wound about or an wound froint the drum, a substantially T- shaped rod coupled to the adjacent end of the pump rod and'having its head termina-lly slottedto receive the adjacent parallel portions of the cable, whereby the latter are connected with the pump rod, and
means for rotating said drum in reverse directions. I i

eluding a power transmitting rod, a second.
cable folded upon itself and having its intermediate portion connected with said rod,
and parallel portions associated with said drum, spaced bands surrounding said drum and having grooves to receive the parallel portions of the second mentioned cable, and means carried by said bands for connecting the adjacent: ends of the cables thereto.
3. A pump jack comprising a frame, a drum journaled thereon, means for rotating said drum, means connecting the drum with the pump rod to give the latter a straight line movement, front and rear supporting legs for said casing, said legs being mounted for pivotal movement, and said rear legs including relatively adjustable sections whereby said frame may be shifted to an out of the Way position withrelation to the pump as and for the purpose specified.
