IMPROVEMENT lN COOKlNG-STOVES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,696, dated December 7, 1875; application filed September 18, 1875.

To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that I, J. S. ADAMS, of Olathe, in the county of Johnson and State of Kansas, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Cook-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a transverse vertical section of my stove, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical sectional View of the wall-oven, and Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical sectional View thereof.

This invention has relation to cook-stoves and it consists in a novel construction of the furnace, and also of an oven having a double wall mounted on the furnace, and made adjustable thereon, and having a side supporting-rack, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In the annexed drawings, A designates a furnace, the two side walls of which are double, with spaces a between them, which communicate with the external air by means of a number of holes, b. This allows a free circulation of air on two sides of the furnace-chamber. Near the rear end of the furnace-chamber, and through the floor thereof, is an opening, 0, beneath which is au'ash-drawer, B, which can be removed at pleasure for emptying its contents. At the front of the firechamber floor is a raised guard, d which prevents ashes falling out when the door 0 is opened, and also allows air to circulate above and below the grate D when the register E is opened. The floor of the fire-chamber is cleared by pressing the ashes back into the ash-pit drawer B. Air is admitted into the fire-chamber A through the register E, and the products of combustion escape from this chamber through a pipe, 0, and enter a space, f, which is between the two walls of a doublewall oven, Gr. The entrance for the pipe e may be located near one end of the oven, as shown in Fig. 1, or it may be at or near the middle thereof, as shown in Fig. 3. The pipe 0 is secured to a plate, g, which is horizontally adjustable, for the purpose of allowing the oven to be moved forward or backward without the necessity of moving the furnace. The bottom, sides, and top of the oven are hollow, and midway between the bottom and top of the side spaces are partitions h, which may be angular, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4., and terminate near the front and rear walls of the oven, or the partitions may be horizontal.

The object of these partitions is to divide and equitably distribute the heat about the oven. The products of combustion are allowed to escape from the space at the top of the oven, into a main flue, through a pipe, 70. For the purpose of nicely regulating the temperature of the oven, openings i t are made through their outer side walls near the bottom thereof, which openings should be provided with dampers for regulating the inlet of air. The temperature of the oven may also be regulated by raising it, more or less, from the top of the furnace; also, by adjusting it at right angles to the length of the furnace, and when so adjusted, supporting it upon a rack, J, which is removably attached to one side of the furnace.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The double-wall oven G mounted on the furnace A, and made adjustable thereon, in combination with the side supporting-rack J, substantially as described. 7
