IMPROVEMENT IN WEATHER-STRIPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,620, dated November 30, 1875; application filed September 25, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JEssE CHANDLER, of Barry, in the county of Pike and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved VVeather-Strip, of which the following is a specification In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a front view, and Fig. 2 a vertical transverse section, of my improved weatherstrip, as applied to a door.

My invention relates to a simple, durable, and effective Weatherstrip for preventing the rain-water from passing in between the lower side of the door and the threshold.
The invention consists in retaining a hinged weather-strip upon the threshold of a door by an adjustable cam 0r presser, as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, A represents the door; B, the threshold, and O the weather-strip, thatis hinged to the lower edge of the door, so as to project partly to the outside of the same, and partly into an inclined rabbet or groove, a, at the bottom of the same.
When the interior section of the weatherstrip is in contact with the inclined groove, the outward part assumes a downward inclination that sheds the water beyond the sill.
The outer part of the sill or threshold is also made with an inclined rabbet for conducting any moisture that may be forced in between the door and strip, or strip and sill to the outside.
The weather strip is preferably made of suitable metal, to be lined with rubber or other material, if desired.
An adjustable plate, D, is attached to the frame ofthe door by slots and fastening-screws, and provided with an inclined stop or cam, b, which bears on the weather-strip on closing the door, so that the strip is carried into position and held securely on the sill.
A very simple and effective weather-strip for preventing the entrance of rain-water at the door-sill is thus furnished, which is cheap, durable, and quickly applied.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1 The combination of the hinged weatherstrip with an adjustable stop-plate, having an inclined cam part at the door-casing for retaining the strip securely on the sill, substantially as described.
