PATENT OFFICE.
ESCERVE. TURNER, OF OCOEE, FLORIDA.
REFRIGERATOR.
Application led June 15, 1926. Serial No. 116,198.
The invention relates torefrigerator apparatus, being designed most especially for cooling meats, although adapted for preserving food generally by a cooling process.
The invention provides a refrigerator 1n which the air is positively circulated through the storage and ,cooling chambers, the latter containing pipes through which the air is cir For a full understanding of the inventionv and the merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and the drawings hereto attached, in which,-
Figure 1 is a vertical transverse sectional view of a refrigerator embodying the invention,
Flgure 2 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure 1,
' Figure 3 is a vertical sectional View on the line 3-3 of Figure l, looking to the left, as
indicated by the arrows, and
Figure 4L is a rear elevational view. Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The refrigerator 'comprises a cabinet embodying a storage chamber l, and a cooling chamber 2, thetwo chambers being in free communication. In the preferable construction the cooling chamber 2 is of less height than the storage chamber 1 and the bottom of each is in the same plane. The cooling chamber is open at the top which is closed by means of a cover 3. The storage chamber is provided in a side with doors 4 and glass panels 5 at the sides of the doors admit of the interior of the storage chamber being inspected without necessitating the openingof the doors.
To render the interior of the storage chamber more accessible, a door 6 is provided in a side A box 7 is located in the'cooling chamber 2 l and is preferably of sheet metal and its bottom 1s perforated, as indicated at 8, and located a distance above the bottom of the cabinet to admit of a drip pan 9 being placed therebelow to catch the drippings and direct the same to an outlet. A plurality of pipes l0 Vextend transversely of the'cooling chamber and are supported in opposite walls of the box 7. The pipes 10 provide for a positive circulation of air through the ice box. One or more pipes 11 may connect at their lower ends with the lowermost pipe 1() and terminate within the upper portion of the storage chamber 1, so as to collect the warm air at the top of the storage chamber and direct the same through the ice box to insure a further coolin of the air and a positive circulation thereo The pipe or pipes 11 are disposed adjacent the side of the storage chamber contiguous to the ice box 7, sol as to be out of the way and branches at opposite ends communicate with the pipe 10 and the upper portion of the storage chamber, respectively.
In the operation of the refrigerator crushed ice and salt are supplied to the ice box 7 and surround the pipe 10. It will thus be understood that the air is thoroughly cooled and a positive circulation created by the warm air entering the upper end of the pipe 11 and the cool air discharging from the lower end of said pipe. The meat may be suspended within the storage chamber in a manner well understood or if preferred, said storage chamber may be shelved and the food placed upon said shelves. The manner of supporting the food within the storage chamber will depend upon the particular use of the refrigerator.l
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
Airefrigerator comprising a cabinet including uxtaposed` cooling and storage chambers in free communication, an ice box in the cooling chamber, a plurality of pipes open at both ends extending horizontally through the ice box and through opposite walls thereof, and an upright pipe in the storage chamber adjacent. the cooling chamber and having a branch 100 at its upper end extending transversely along minating short of the upper end of the storage chamber and open at its top which is closed by means of a cover and the storage chamber hav- 10 -ing doors in its sides and transparent panels for observation. j
v In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
