IMPROVEMENT IN MIDDLINGS-PLIRIFIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,25 l, dated November 23, 1875; application filed July 17, 1875.

A represents the fine sieve, onto which the middlings first pass from a feeding-shoe at the head 13, where they are subject to a light upward draft of air, caused by the fan 0, and regulated in force by the valve D. E is the coarse sieve, onto which the remainder passes after leaving the fine sieve, where a stronger draft takes up the heavier particles, while the coarser middlings escape through the sieve. A valve, G, also regulates this draft.
It will be observed that my hoods widen at the bottom, so as to cover the entire section of sieves A E, and thus arrest all impurities that would otherwise pass through the sieves.
Ordinary machines cause a very strongcurrent of air-to pass through one part of sieve, so that no middlings will pass over this part, but around and down the sides, because the hood or spout only covers a portion of the .through the sieves, the whole being only possible under an end wise movement of shoe.
What I claim as new is-- p The combination of the successive inclined sieves A E-the former fine, the latter coarse, and both covered by hoodswith a fan, G, a feeding-shoe at head B, and valves D G, all arranged substantially as and for the purpose specified.
