IBOILER.
Application filed April 28, 1923, Eleral No. 633,968, and in France April 27, 1922.
My invention relates to a low-pressure boiler adapted chiefly l'or hot water or steam heatingl purposes, and designed 'so as to be simply and economically constructed, the heating power of the boiler being considerable with respect to its small size and light weight.
The walls of the said boiler comprise a plurality of hollow vertical panels of east iron which are not in direct communication with each other, but are connected together at the top and bottom by transverse collectors. Each ot the said panels has the forni of l flat receptacle which is closed on all sides except for two apertures or nipple openings through the inner wall thereot for connecting the same with the said collectors.
The upper collector constitutes the dome et the furnace, and it has an opening` therethrough for the escape of the products of combustion to the chimney.
The lower collector` constitutes the bottom ot` the ash pit.
The appended drawing.,r shows three consti-notional forms oit' boiler according to the invention.
Fig. l is a vertical section ol the lirst form of? construction.
Fin'. 2 is a cross-section on the line ill-A. of Fig. l. l
Fig'. 3 is a horizontal section of a torni of construction.
Fig. l is a vertical section of the third 'lorm ol construction.
igure a top view, (the cover'plate being removed) parts being; breiten away.
lnihe device shown in Figs. l and il, the walls ol? the boiler are formed oit tour vertical panels nl u? nfl c* having the shape et lint reciupllules, each being' cast in :i single piece. ln order to provide a stronger construrtiini, the inner and outer faces of each receptacle or panel may be braced by the est cross-pieces o. At o and (Z.- are indicated two transverse collectors whereof one forms second the dome of the furnace and the other the panels al a2 a at by the unions e which are analogous to the members used to conneet radiator' elements, or by fiat connecting,` members such as flanged connections bolted in place..
The apertures j' and y are formed in the outer panel; the upper aperture serves for the fuel inlet and is provided with the cover fr; the lower aperture is provided with the aslrpit door j. On the other hand, a conduit /lt is provided in the collector c ior the discharge ol. smoke. The hot water inlet and outlet can be disposed upon the panels or upon the collectors. Ribs or wings of greater or less height are preferably formed upon the inner and outer face of the panels in order to augment the transmission ot' heat.
ln the example shown in Fig. 3, each of the lateral faces of the boiler comprises two panels a2 and two panels at. The boiler shown in Fig. 4L has at the rear an additional panel 0:5 which forms with the panels a3 a vertical flue which conducts the smoke from the upper aperture m to the lower aperture fn. which is intended to be connected with the chimney.
l claim:
A boiler comprising a plurality of separate, hollow panels forming the vertical walls thereof; the lower portions of said liollow panels forming the vertical wall portions ot the ash-pit, an opening inthe lower portion of one of said hollow panels to permit ol' access to said ash-pit, a hollow meinber engagi.ng the uppe portions of said hollow panels and constituting the top of said boiler, a` hollow panel member disposed interi'nediate oie and in engagement with the ash-pit portions oit said` panels below said openingv and forming the transverse' bottom wall ot said ash-pit, and communica tingl connections between each of said panels and said members serving to secure the saine together, substantially as speeiied.
ln testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name.
