This invention relates to metallic forms for use in the pouring of concrete beam and floor construction, and the object of the in vention is to provide a set of forms dea signed for use under varying conditions, and which may be easily assembled and disassembled, so that a single setof forms may be adjusted to differences in the spacing of the concrete beams, columns and other in local features of construction.
A further object of the invention is to make certain sections of the forms interchangeable for use with other form sections of varying size and shape, so that with a 1-5 single set of sections a large number of variations in form may be provided for.

various modifications are each composed of side walls 10 and a top wall 11. The supplemental forms differ from the full forms in that they have but a single side wall 12 and a top wall 13. The forms, either full or supplemental, may either be of rectangular formation, as indicated by the intermediate forms in Fig. 1-, or of laterally converging formation, as indicated 'in Fig. 2, or of lateral and sloping formation, as indicated in Fig. 6, or of sloping formation alone.
The non-rectangular forms, whether sloping in one direction only or in two directions, are preferably used as end forms of a series, as well illustrated in Fig. 5, in which several series of forms are arranged in spaced relation to one another with the laterally converging end forms so lying as to a 0rd a progressively increasing space or separation toward thealigned ends of the forms in order to afford greater width "to the concrete beams 11 poured in between the form series at the point where the beam ends merge into and connect with the adjacent portion of the structure. For the same reason if an increase in vertical thickness of concrete is also desired above the sloping formation of Fig. 6 may be'employed,
The forms are assembled into a series by positioning the full forms with their ends telescoping into one another, as in 1, and the supplemental forms are likewise telescoped end to end and arranged with their top walls overlapping the main forms. lVith this arrangement, the form series can be adiusted both as to length and width so as to uild up the desired dimensions to restrict the admission of concrete into the space intended for its reception.
V here more than two forms are arranged in end to end relation to one another, the intermediate forms will preferably be open ended to afford the telescopin relation of the sections, but where, as in 14, only two main and two supplemental sections are employed, there will, of course, be no intermediate sections. In whatsoever arran ement the form sections are related, it will b'e necessary to close the ends, and the interchangeable end section 14 is provided for use whereneeded. L
The end section is of rectangular shape and provided around its margins with a a headed nail 22, as in Fig. 8, or
plurality of flanges 15 which are separated at the corners 16 to permit the flanges to be individually bent into angular relation with the body portion of the end section. The flanges are provided with perforations 17, which when the flanges are bent in angular relation, will register with similar perforations 18 near the end margins of the main or supplemental sections, so that the end sections may be readily fitted into place with the flanges in underlying relation to the side and top walls ofthe end sections and with the apertures 17 and 18 in register for the reception of bolts or similar attaching means.
Where an end section is used for closing the end of one of the supplemental forms, it will be necessary to employ but two of the flanges around the two sides of the supplen ental form, the remaining two flanges being bent back, as in Fig. 3, so as not to interfere with the overlapping adjustment of the supplemental form with relation to the end form with which it is associated. Of course, where converging end forms are employed, the size of the end openings will be reduced in comparison with the sizes of the opening of the rectangular forms, so that for practical use it may be necessary to provide end sections of smaller size for use with the converging forms than for use with the rectangular forms, but otherwise the method of use is the same in both cases. The forms may be provided with plane base edges, as in most of the figures, or with flanges 19 along the base edges, as indicated in Fig. 14.
In order to hold the main and supplemental forms in adjusted lateral overlapping relation to one another, each of the supplemental forms is provided with two or more series of aligned apertures 20 which are positioned to register with elongated slots 21 in the top wall of the main form, the relation being such that some form of attaching means may be entered through a selected aperture in position to registerwith the co-acting slot. The attaching means may be in the form of a threaded bolt 23, as in Figs. 10 and 11. here the nail is employed, the shank of the nail is entered through the selected aperture 20- and is driven downwardly into a groove or channel 2% between the inner corrugated walls 25 ot' a pair of clip members 26, each oi? which is of the form indicated in Figs. 8 and 9. In these figures it will be noted that the corrugated engaging walls 25 are hacked and reinforced by diverging rear walls 27 which terminate in flanged edges 28 lapped under the flanged edges 29 of the inner walls, both of said flanges having entered therethrough a plurality of attaching bolts for holding the clips to the top wall of the main form section to bring the groove 2% between the clip sections into underlying alignment with the slot 21, so that as the nail is driven downwardly through one of the apertures 20 in the supplemental form section, its point will enter the groove and tend to spread the corrugated clamping faces of the clip sections, which thus serve to grip and hold the nail against easy withdrawal.
In lieu of the grooved spring clip arrangement just described, the upper wall of the main form section may be provided with a depending boss 31 (see Figs. 10 and 11) having formed in its center a slot 32 for the reception of a: screw bolt 33 which may be entered through a selected one of the holes 20 and into the slot 32, being held in place by a thumb nut 34 is conjunction with a backing nut An outer nut 36 may be employed to bear against the outer face of the supplemental form, or in lieu thereof the upper end v37 of the screw bolt may be turned over or upset as in Fig. 11.
The series of terms are supported with spaces between one series and the next for r the pouring of the concrete in the formation of the beams, and the lower edges of the "forms are supported upon cross bars 38 consisting of telescoping sections 39 and 40 which are held together in sliding relation to one another by the provision of st-irrups a1 l1, one of which is connected to the section 39 by a pivot bolt 42, and the other of: which is connected to the section 40 by a pivot bolt L3. Each stirrup, pivoted to one of the sections, embraces the other section, sufficient clearance being afforded to permit an easy splitting of the bar sections past one another when the stirrups are standing in transverse relation to the line of movement.
When it is desired to lock the cross bar sect-ions against further movement, the stirrups may be swung slightly on their pivots by an edge blow from a hammer or other tool which will cause them to bite into the surface of the wood composing the bar sections, and if desired, nails may be lightly driven through nail holes 44: to hold the parts in clamping position. The respective bar sections are provided near the ends with L-shaped flanged clips 4h), each provided in its base section with a slot all to receive a screw belt I? upon which is carried a thumb nut 48 for tigl'itening the clips in adjusted relation.
After the bars have been adjusted to the desired length, the ends are positioned to rest upon fur-ring strips 49 secured to the joists 50 in spaced relation to the rails 51 which occupy a T-shaped relation to the joists and constitute the base or floor for the pouring of the cement in the formation of the beams. The spaces between the tuning strips and the rails above constitute continnous slots or channels tor the reception of a plurality of sectional supporting bars 38 which may be entered into position hy entering: their ends into the slots or grooves and then swinging them into right transverse relation to the joists. The clips 4-5 stand in spaced relation to the loweredges of the forms, and each serves to clamp and hold a clamping strip 52 bearingagainst the inner face of the form near its lower edge,
and, if desired, awedge block may be interposed to force the clamping; strip tight y against the form.
'Where provision must be made for the location of the forms in proximity to a column. 54, as in Fig. 13, the full sized forms are brought up into flush relation with the inner face of the column, and this leaves. an area at the side of the column which may have to be occupied by forms of reduced dimensions. \Vhere such a requirement exists, a main reduced form and a supplemental reduced form 56 may be employed, which are of sufficiently reduced trans-verse dimensions to occupy the open space withinthe end of one of the full sized main forms into the end of which the reduced forms are telescoped, being adjusted laterally in respect to one another to afford the required width to fil'l the space adjacent the column.
Theoute'r edge'of the reduced main form may fin d support in part upon the cross bars provided for the support of the full sized form sections, but it will frequently be necessary to make special provision for the support of the reduced forms by employing one or more cross bars 5'2 supported at the outer end from the adjacent oist and at the inner end upon a strip 58 secured to the column or otherwise supported. The reduced forms are further braeed and supported by the provision of post 59 upstanding from the cross bar 57 In lieu of the sectional supporting bars previously described, an integral cross bar 60 may be provided near each end of which is a wooden block 61 which co-acts with the wedge 53 and the clamping strip 52 in the manner previously described. Such an arrangement ,is shown in Fig. 12 in which additional width is secured by the employment of a single main form and two overlapping supplemental forms, and in this iitsstance the centrally positioned supplemental form is provided with a bolt and nut connection, shown in Fig. 11, and serves in the manner of a main form to afford support and connection for the outermost supplemental form. I
The manner of using the form of the present invention may be briefly summar- 128d as follows:-

The lower edges of the forms. will rest upon the cross bars which are adjusted to the spacing of the joists, and the lower edges-of the liormswvill be clamped and reinforced by the clamping strips carried by the cross bars.

I claim:
1. In forms for pouring plastic material, a main form section having spaced side Walls and at top cross wall, and a supplemental form section having a single side wall and a top wall. adapted to overlapthe top. wall of the main form section, and removable end sections adapted interchangeably to be secured to the open end either of amain form section or a supplemental form section, substantially as described.
2. In. forms vfor pouring plastic material, a main form section having spaced side walls and a top cross wall, and a supple mental form sectionhaving a single side wall and a top wall adapted to overlap the top Wall of the main form section, means for securing the overlapped top walls against displacement, and removable end sections adapted interchangeably to be secured to section or a supplemental form section, substantially as described.
3. In forms for pouring plastic material, a main form section having spaced side walls and a top cross wall, and a supplemental form section having a single side wall and a top wall adapted to overlap the top wall of the main form section, and removable end sections having formed around three of their edges bendable flanges adapted to engage interchangeably with either a main form section or a supplemental form section for closing the ends thereof, substantially as described.
. 4. In forms for pouring plastic material,
a main form section having spaced side walls and a top cross wall, and a supplemental form section having a single side wall and a top wall adapted to overlap the top wall of the main form section, means for securing the overlapped top walls against displacement, and removable end sections having formed around three of their edges bendable flanges adapted to engage interchangeably with either a main form sec tion or a supplemental form section for closing the ends thereof, substantially as described.
5. In forms for pouring plastic material, a main form section having spaced side walls and a top cross wall, and a supplemental form section having a single sidewall and a top wall adapted to overlap the top wall of the main form section, and removable end sections having formed around three of their edges bendable flanges adapted to engage interchangeably with either a main form section or a supplemental form section for closing the ends thereof, the main and supplemental form sections being of progressively reduced size toward the ends adapted to be closed by the end sections, substantially as described.
6. In forms for pouring plastic material, a main form section having spaced side walls and a top cross wall, and a supplemental form section having a single side wall and a top wall adapted to overlap the top wall of the main form section, means for securing the overlapped top walls against displacement, and removable end sections having formed around three of their edges bendable flanges adapted to engage intcrchangeaoly with either a main form section or a supplemental form section for closing the ends thereoflthe main and supplemental form sections being of progressively reduced size toward the ends adapted to be closed by the end sections, substantially as described.
.7. In terms l'or pouring plastic material, a main form section having spaced side walls and a top cross wall, and a supplemental form section having a single side wall and a top wall adapted to overlap the top wall 01": the main form section, a cross bar for supporting the lower edges of the main and supplemental form sections, said cross bar consisting of telescoping sections, each provided with a pivoted stirrup embracing the other bar section, means for supporting the ends of the bars and maintaining exterior contact with the lower edges of the form sections, and means carried by the cross bars for clamping the lower edges of the "form ections against the exterior contacting means substantially as described.
8. In terms for pouring plastic material, a main form section having spaced side walls and a top cross wall, and a supplemental iorm section having a single side wall and a top wall adapted to overlap the top wall of the main form section, a cross bar for supporting the lower edges of the main and supplemental form sections, said cross bar consisting of telescoping sections, each provided with a pivoted stirrup embracing the other bar section, means for supporting the ends of the bars and maintaining exterior contact with the lower edges of the form sections, means carried by the cross bars for clamping the lower edges of the form sections against the exterior contacting means, said clamping means including an adjustable stop member carried at each end of the cross bar, and a wedge co-acting therewith to exert an outward pressure against the lower edges of the form walls occupying the exterior positions, substantially as described.
9. In forms for pouring plastic material, the combination of a main form section having spaced side walls and a top cross section, and a supplemental form section hav-- ing a single side wall and a top wall overlapping the top wall of the main form section, spaced joists and top rails against which the exterior side walls of the main and supplemental form sections are positioned, cross bars supported between the joists upon which the lower edges of the main and supplemental form sections rest, stop members near the opposite ends of the cross bars, clamping strips bearing against the inn-er lower marginal faces of the exterior walls of the main and supplemental wall sections, and wedges interposed between said clamping strips and said stop members for ei'erting a wedging pressure to clamp the edges of the form walls against the extcriorly positioned rails carried by the jeists, substantially as described.
10. In terms l'or pouring plastic material, the combination of a main form section. having spaced side walls and a top cross wall, and a supplen'iental torin section having a single side wall and a top wall overlapping the side wall of the main form section, spaced joists and top rails against which the exterior side walls of the main and supplemental form sections are positioned,
cross bars supported between the joists upon which the lower edges of the main and supplemental form sections rest, and clamping means carried by the cross bars for exerting a clamping pressure to hold the lower edges of the forms in clamped relation with the exteriorly positioned rails carried by the joists, substantially as described.
11. In forms for pouring plastic material, the combination of a main form section having spaced side walls and a top cross wall, and a supplemental form section having a single side wall and a top wall adapted to overla the top wall of the main form sec tion, t 1e top wall of one of the form sections being provided with a plurality of perforations and the to wall of the other form section being provic ed with a slot, a fastcning member entered through a selected perforation and through the slot, and metallic engaging means yieldingly co-acting with one of the members for removably engaging the projected end of the fastening means, substantially as described.
12. In iorms for pouring plastic material, the combination of a main form section hav ing spaced side walls and a top cross wall,
and a supplemental form section having a single side wall and a top wall adapted to overlap the top wall of the main form section, the top wall of one of the form sections being provided with a plurality of per-- forations and the top wall of the other form section being provided with a slot, a threaded bolt entered through a selected perforation and through the slot, the wall oi the slotted member adjacent the slot being embossed inwardly, and a nut carried by the screw bolt and bearing against the ein-v bossure, substantially as described.
13. In forms for pouring plastic material,
a main form section having spaced side walls and a top cross wall and asuppleinental form section having a single side wall andv a slotted portion, said slotted portion being carried inwardly below the plane of the top wall to bring the slot into vertically spaced relation with a selected aperture, and a connecting member entered through a selected aperture and the slot, and spring means carried by the slotted section for removably engaging said connecting member, substantially as described.
14. In torn s for pouring plastic material, a maintorm section having spaced side walls and a cross top wall, and a supplemental form section having a single side wall and a top wall adapted to overlap the top wall of the main frame section in conjunction with similarly formed main and supplemental form sections of reduced width adapted when in overlapped relation to be telescoped into the end of the first mentioned main form section to provide an extension of reduced width, a cross bar for supporting the edges of the first mentioned main and supplemental form sections, means for supporting cross bar of reduced length for supporting the edges of the reduced main and supplemental form sections, one end of the last named cross bar being supported in alignment with the adjoining end of the longer cross bar and the other end being independently supported, substantially as described. a.
