With these and other objects in vlew which will more fully appear as the nature of theinvention isbetter understood, the invention consists in the combination,arrangement and construction of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated ini'he accompanying drawings, it being understood that many changes may bemade in the size and proportion of several parts and i'letails of construction within. thescope ofthe appended claims, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing ,any of the advantages of the invenconstructed in accordance with the present invention.

The operation of the windowis asfollows:
The lower and inner sash 11 is raised in the ordinary-way to about sixinches from the top of the frame and the members 17 of said sash are connected to the frame by means of latches or bolts 21, oncbf which is shown by full lines in Figure 5 in operation. I
The guides 1 1- are withdrawn laterally from grooves 18 in frame by means .ofthe bolts 13, permitting the sash to be swung inward and turned on the pivots 16 so as to present the outer side of the sash glass uppermost in the room, as shown. in Figure 1.
T he upper sash 12 is lowered in the ordinary way and its members 17 are connected to the frame by means of the latches 21. Then after the guides 14: of the sash 12 are withdrawn laterally from their respective grooves 18, the said sash 12 is swung inwardly in the same manner as the lower sash. The sashes may be held at any angle while washing them.
lVhen the outer sides of the glasses have been cleaned the sashes are returned to their original positions by reversing the indicated operations. By this is meant, the latches 21 are disengaged from the members 17 complementary to the sashes, said latches being swung to the idle dotted line position shown in Figure 5, and then when the sashes are restored to their sliding positions between and in parallelism with their respective grooves 18, their strip-like guides 14% are moved laterally outward and hence into their respective grooves 18 so that the guides 14 rest partly in the sashes and partly in the grooves 18, Figure l, to permit of rectilinear or sliding movement of the sashes. The sash 12 is returned to its original position first.
The sashes characterized as stated do not interfere wvith screens which may be attached to the frame in the ordinary way. The members 17 may be made any length desired to afford the sash position wanted when the sashes are adjusted as in Figure 1.
The lower sash 11 when positioned in the upper part of frame may be lowered to any desired position by placing extra latches 21 for use in conjunction with the sash 11 wherever wanted.
One latch 21 is shown in Figure 5 as holding one member 17, and it will be understood that said latch 21 is detachably secured against casual movement by means of a clip 22. This clip prevents casual movement of the latch 21, and yet when a little stress is applied to the said latch 21, the latch may be disengaged from clip 22 and moved out of engagement with member 17, and then the latch 21 may be placed in the idle, out of the way, position shown by dotted lines in Figure 5 in a pocket provided in frame 10.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In combination, a frame having grooves in the lnner sides of its side stiles, sashes, guides carried by the sashes and movable into and out of said grooves, means connected to said guides and carried by the sashes for the projection and retraction of said guides, movable latches carried by the side stiles of the frame, slidable and swingable hinge members pivotally connected to the sashes and apertured for detachable connection to said latches, pulleys carried by the side stiles of the frame, and cords for the support of the sashes connected to said hinge members and passed over said pulleys.
2. In combination, a frame having grooves in the inner sides of its side stiles, sashes, guides carriedby the sashes and movable into and out of said grooves, means connected to said guides and carried by the sashes for the projection and retraction of said guides, movable latches carried by the side stiles of the frame, slidable and swingable hinge members pivotally connected to the sashes and apertured for detachable connection to said latches, pulleys carried by the side stiles of the frame, and cords for the support of the sashes connected to said hinge members and passed over said pulleys; the said side stiles of the frame being recessed, and the said latches being pivotally connected. to the stiles and movable into and out of said recesses and being provided with angularly-disposed terminal portions, and the said stiles being equipped with clips to engage and detachably hold said terminal portions.
3. In combination, a frame having side stiles and longitudinal grooves in the inner sides of said stiles, an element capable of sliding and swinging movements relative to the frame, guides carried by and movable relative to said element and adapted to be projected into and retracted from said grooves, slidable and swingable hinge members pivotally connected to the said element, means for detachably and pivotally connecting said hinge members to the side stiles of the frame, and means connected to said hinge members for supporting the said element.
