rumanos CLEANER.
Application and Aprn 11,1928.- seriai Ne. eeaeea This invention relates to means for cleaning the radiator of a furnace, the general object of the invention being to provide a rotary member on the bottom of the radiator for collecting the soot and dust, with means for rotating the same and with a spiral associated with the rotary means for scraping the soot and dust from the rotary member and either forcing it into the opening. in the 10 dome of the radiator so that it will drop into the furnace or for moving theV soot Vand dust into the 'clean-out opening in the i furance. r y f Another object of the invention is to provide a deflector member arranged alongside the spiral which helps the spiral to remove the material from the rotary member, with means for reversing the parts to place the deflector member on either side of the spiral. l Anotherl object of the invention is to` so form'the parts that 4they can be placed in position through the clean-out opening and removed therefrom, with means for detachably holding the spiral supporting member inthe clean-out opening.
This invention alsoV consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated` in the accompanying drawings and specifically .pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, refdrawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which---'` Figure 1 is' an. elevation with parts in section, of a furnace, showing the invention in use.
FigureQ is a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1. c v y Figure 3 is a front end view of the invention.
Figure 4 is a rear end view thereof.
Figure 5 is a section on line 5-5 of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary view of the rotary member, showing the means for connecting the sections thereof together. Figure 7 is a section on line 7-7 ofy Figure 6. n
As shown in these views, I place a ringshaped plate 1 in the lower part of the annular member of the radiator A of the adjacent section.
erence will be had tothe accompanying` furnace, this plate being formedof sections,
engaging'a keyhole-shaped opening '3 in the The sections must be` so` formed that they can'be passed through the clean-cut opening B ofthe furnace so that they can be readilyv put in place.v in the radiator or removed therefrom. The outer periphery of the. plate is formed withfthe teeth 4. A cylindrical member 5 has a cross piece 6 at its frontend in .which is journaled the stem 7 of a screw or spiral 8 so that the spiral is rotatably supported by the member 5. The outerr end of the stem 7 is shaped to receive a crank handle so that the spiral can be rotated. 1 n f Y l The member 5 is .removably held in the clean-out opening B-by the plates '.9 atjtached to its sides and frictionally engaging` the walls of the clean-'out opening and by the set screw 1G threaded int-o a hole in the top of the member 5.and engaging the top wall ofthe clean-out opening, lthis screw acting to hold the member 5 against the bottom of thev clean-out opening. The bottom part ofthe member 5 is provided with a threaded hole 11 so that it can be reversed and the screw 10 placed in this .hole 11 when i;
the vspiral is to be turned in an opposite direction. When the member 5 is properly positioned in the clean-out opening, the spiral will rest on the rotary plate 5 and a 'gear 12 is fastened to the spiral an appreciable distance from its front end, the teeth of the gear engaging the teeth 4 of the plate so that whenthe spiral is rotated, the gear .12 will impartI rotary `movement to the plate 1.
A deflector plate 13 of lcurved shape `in cross section is fastened to the member 5 and parallels the spira-l, this deflector plate preventing ashes, dust, soot or the like from being carried around by the plate 1 and causing such material to be moved od the plate by the spiral. When the opening 14 will be rotated so that the material on said plate will be scraped therefrom by the spiral and the deflector 13 and forced through the opening ll into the furnace. In radiators Where the opening let is not opposite the clean-out opening, the member Y 5 is reversed and the screw l0 placed in the It is thought from the foregoing descrip# tion that the advantages and novel :features of my invention will be readily apparent.
- It is to be understood that I may malte changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall Within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is.:-
l. A device forl cleaning a radiator of a furnace comprising a ring-shaped plate placed in the annular chamber ofthe radiator and rotatably supported therein, a supporting member removably held in the cleanout opening of the furnace, a spiral rotatably supported by said member and entendino' over the plate and adapted to remove the material from the plate means for rotating the spiral andthe plate and a deilector member supported by the supporting member and contacting with a portion of the spiral. v l
2. A device for cleaning a radiator of a furnace comprising a ring-shaped plate placed inthe annular chamber of the radiator and rotatably supported therein, a supporting member removably held in the cleanout opening of the furnace, a spiral rotatably supported by said member and extending over the plate and adapted to remove the material from the plate, means for rotating the spiral and the plate, a deiector member `supported by the supporting member and cylindrical member, a spiral rotatably sup ported thereby, means for removably hold ing Ythe cylindrical member in the clean-out opening of the furnace, said spiral extending acrossthe plate and contacting therewith for Vremoving material from the plate, a gear fastened to the spiral and engaging the teeth on theplate for imparting movement to the plate when thespiral is rotated and a deflector vmember of` 'curved vshape in cross section attached' to the cylindrical Vmember and contacting the inner portion of the spiral.
Ll. Means forrremoving foreign matter from the radiator of a, furnace comprising a sectional ring-shaped plate rotatably mounted in the annular' chamber of the radiator, teeth on the periphery Aof the plate, aV cylindrical member, a spiral rotatably supported thereby, means for removably holding the cylindrical member in the clean-outopening of the furnace, said spiral extending across the plate and contacting therewith for removing material from the plate, a gear fastened to the spiral and engaging the teeth on the plate for imparting movement to the plate when the spiral is rotated, a detiector member of curved shape in cross section attached to the cylindrical member and contactingthe inner portion of the spiral and means for permitting the' cylindrical menr ber to be reversed in the clean-out opening whereby the deflector member can be placed on either side of the spiral.
In testimony `whereof I aiiix my signature.
