AUXILIARY SWITCH.

This invention relates to electrically-operated electric ci rc-uit interrupters and switches. An electrically-opera-ted circuit interruptor is usually provided with two separate electromagnets, or solenoids, Which are arranged to effect the closing and opening ot the circuit interruptor. The circuit interruptor may be remotely controlled through a suitable control circuit including a remotely-disposed and manualiy-operable circuit-controller Ytor each electro-magnet; and the manual operation ci" a cireuit-controller is arranged to effect either' the closing or the opening of the interrupter.

An object of this invention is the provision of an auxiliary si'itch associated. with the circuit interruptor and operated therewith, and by the mechanism thereotj in such a manner that the control circuit :for the opening and closing electro-magnets is controlled and interrupted by the auxiliary switch, 'whereby to eliminate relays heretofore considered essential to the control circuit.
A further object is generally to improve electric s vfitches and interruptcrs and control circuits therefor. f

The circuit interrupter 10 is provided with electrically-operated mechanism by which it may be opened and closed; and the electrically-operated mechanism includes a housing l2 which contains a solenoid 14: adapted to be energized to effect the closing ot the interrupter. The mechanism also includes a housing lo' which contains a solenoid 18 adapted to be energized to open, or trip7 the interrupter. Said mechanism includes an operating shaft 20 which is adapted to be moved angularly in a clockwise direction to effect the closing ot' the interrupter, and said shaft is adapted to be so actuated by said closing sole noid, which solenoid is operatively connected with said shai't through suitable operating members including the plunger 22 which is reciprocable Within said solenoid. Said shaft is ad apte-d to be locked in the closed position of the interrupt-er by means including the latch 24, Which latch is carried loosely by an arm 26 fixed to said shaft. Said latch is adapted to engage releasably with a stationarily-supported latch-roller 28; and a plunger 30 operable Within said opening' solenoid 18 is adapted to trip the latch, When said solenoid is energized, and permit the circuit interruptor to move to open position and the shaft 20, consequently, to rotate in a counter clockwise direction. n
The auxiliary switch embodying the invention and adapted to control the circuits for the closing and opening solenoids is carried and actuated by the electrically-operated mechanism for the circuit interrupter. Said switch includes a more or less U-shaped metal trame having the upstanding and approximately parallel spaced side Walls 32 and the integral bottom connecting Wall 3a, Which bottom Wall rests upon the housing l2 and is secured thereto by suitable means as the bolts 36. Said Ytrame is open at the back and said back-opening is closed by the heatresisting plate 38, which plate is also an electrical insulator and 'forms the back-plate or Wall ot an arc-chamber.
