My invention relates to door stops and has tor its obiect to provide device by means ot which a swinging door may be held open Yar-liess its position relative to the door 1 aine.

11n object ot the invention resides in providing a mounting havin a transverse hole to..niing a be ng therein and to 'further provide a rod rormed with an angular portion adapted to entend 'through said bearing and being ournale'd therein.

Another object ol the invention resides in providing a keeper tor holdingsaid rod when said door stop is in disuso, said rod being adapted upon lateral movement to be engaged or disengaged 'from said keeper.

A still further object et the invention resides in enlarging one or vboth ends ot the hole in said mounting to permit the angular portion of said rod to move Within said hole in such a manner as to allow oi' the lateral movement ot said rod in engaging or becoming disengaged trom said keeper.

,fr feature oi the invention resides in providing an angle plate adapted to abut against the angular portion ot said rod to hold the same within said bearing.

For the purpose ot illustrating the application ot my invention l have shown a door trame A. consisting of a jamb 10 :torined with vertical l'rame members 11 and 12 and including a threshold 13. ln this trame is hung a door 1 Jtermed with stiles 13 and 11i nd rails having mounted therein a panel 16. Boor B is swingably mounted in the Vtrame A by means oi" hinges 1'? and is adapted to swing outwardly as shown in 1, to pass over 'the ground designated 1S.

The operation of the device is as follows: The rod 19 is constructed somewhat longer than the distance from the bearing 22 to the ground 18 immediately belovv the lower portion of the door, so that when the door is swung open said rod 19 occupies an angular position such as shownin Fig. 1 With the loiver end olf said rod directly engaging the ground. Movement of the door B towards the frame A is hence prevented through the engagement ot the rod 19 with the ground so that the door is at all times prevented from further closing. it will be noted that the Wing-like portion 21 et theinounting Q0 extends towards the. ground Which brings the closed portion ot the hinge eye 22 in contact with the bent portion 23' et rod 19 when the device is brought into action? thereby presenting a suitable bearing capable of resisting the thrust from the rod 19 When resisting the closing of the door. To prevent the penetration of thel end 25 of rod 19 into the ground 18, the end oit said rod is arranged with a transverse pin 26 Which extends completely across the same and serves as a shoulder or abutment to the end of the rod as clearly shown in Fig. 1.

For the purpose of holding the rod 19 While in disuso, l provide a keeper 9'? which is secured at one `end to the stile lll; of the door B by ot screws 28 at a location considerably above the mounting 20. This keeper consists of astrip oit spring metal `formed with a groove portion 99 near its tree end behind ivhich the said rod 19 may lie when in its retracted position and is further arranged with an upturned end 30 to facilitate the insertion of said rod behind the same. lt hence becomes evident that by moving the said rod 19 laterally after the same has been swung lg anni into its uppermost position, the said rod may be moved into engagement or moved out of engagement with said keeper by simply shifting the rod laterally with one hand and without manipulating the keeper with the other hand. To accommodate such movement the hinge 22 formed on the mounting 2O is constructed with the extreme ends 31 thereof bent outwardly therefrom to make the hole indicated at 32 passing through said hinge enlarged at its two ends. This permits the pintle 23 within said bearing to rock, as indicated in dotted lines in d ig. 2 to allow the rod 19 to be shifted a sufficient amount laterally to permit of insertion beneath of the keeper 27 or permit of its removal therefrom.

For the purpose of holding the pintle 23 of rod 19 within the bearing 22 l employ an angle plate 33 which is attached to the stile 14. This angle plate is constructed with a base Se directly attached to the said stile through screws 35. Said angle plate further comprises a fla-nge 36 of such a height that the same extends outwardly beyond the bearing 22. This angle plate is so disposed that the rod 19 may swing in between the same andthe edge of the mounting 20 so as to give the same the` necessary lateral movement required in inserting said rod beneath the keeper 27. At the same time said angle plat-e prevents the pintle 23 of said rod from slid ing` out of the bearing 22.

The advantages of my invention are manifest. An extremely simple and eective device is provided whereby an open door may be held from accidentally closing. The de.- vice can be constructed from available stock at a nominal cost and can readily be installed without the aid of special equipment or tools. The device will not readily get out of order and there are. no cotter keys or other breakable parts which may break or fall apart so as to render the device inoperable.

Changes in the specilic form` of my invention. as herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed without deh parting from the spirit of my invention.

Having described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
