To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. ALLEED, of Charlotte, in the county'ofMecklenbnrg and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and Improved Eyeleting-Machine, of which the following is a specification:
In this improved machine the magazine con-- taining the eyelets and the chute for conducting them to the inserting-tool slide forward to carry the eyelet over the tool by a spring, and are forced back by a cam-lever worked by the slide of the tool, and in going back they livered from the magazine into the chute. The slide of the inserting-tool also works the feed, and the punchl is worked by a cam on the driving-shaft and aspring, all being arranged so as to make a simple and efcient machine.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved machine. Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 is a section on line a: w of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a section of the magazine on line y y, and Fig. 5 is a sectionof the chute onv the line z z.

A is the table, along which the work is fed by the feeder B, to pass under the punch C and the header D. The feed-slide B is worked byva rock-lever, E, and spring F. The rocklever is worked by the slide G, which carries the inserting-tool H, and this slide is worked by the crank I of the driving-shaft J. The heading-tool D is arranged directly over the inserting-tool in a support, L, fastened on the table by adjusting-screws M, so as to raise and lower it as wanted, and over the feedplate B is a roller, N, with a roughened or OOIT@- 1875 application filed 'pointed face, for holding the work when the plate moves back, the roller being heldby the pawl O and ratchet P. Q is the chute, down which the eyelets slide from the magazine R into the inserting-tool H 5 it is fixed so as to slide up and down inthe support S, to present the eyelets over the tool H and move back out ofthe way; it is moved down by the spring T and up by the lever U, and the lever is Vworked by the slide G. The eyelets are brushed out ofthe magazineR into the chute bythe brush W, which is turned forward and backward by the arm X and the rod Y as the magazine and the chute' slide up and down. Z isy an adjustable gage, by which to regulate the work relatively to the punch and theinserting-tool7 and Z is an adjusting-screw, by which to regulate the feed of the work. The punch is forced down bythe cam a on the driving-shaft rod b and lever d, and it is raised by the spring e.
Having thus described Ymy invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The combination of the feed-slide B, lever E, spring F, and the slide Grof the inserting-tool, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with chute Q, spring T, lever U, and the slide Gr, of the inserting-tool, substantially as specified.
3. The combination of roller N, ratchet O, and pawl P with the reciprocating sliding feed B, substantially as specified.
