The devices of -this class 'which have been proposed heretofore are adapted to be used only 'for power looins oi a certain class and said devices have togbe altered materially it they are tobe used with power looms of any p other type, and inthe construction of new power looms spec-ialprovision and recoiist'riic tions have to be inade to allowthe application ot said devices. All said devices haveV the drawback that the expense 'for mounting the devices and for the reconstruction oic the looin are verywhighy also differing in son'ie respect according to the type of iooiii. Therod l1 is linked to brake lever 13 pivoted to Aa down?" loo-sepulley' 4c by nieans ot bevel gears Q4 to a cani shaft 25. One of the iiiay he loo brought in or out of gear by means of a shifting lever 26. The lever 26 is operated by a weighted lever 27 which latter is linked to a starting lever 29 by means of a rod 28. The starting lever 29 which is pivoted at a lug of theplate 14, is provided with a cam 3() which rests on the back side of a feeler lever 31, which serves as a latch device and a control device for the levers 29 and 35. The feeler lever 31 is rotatably mounted on a stud 32 on which stud thel fork lever 33 is pivoted. It' the feeler lever 31 is moved forwardly,`the lever 29 loses its abutment and lever 29 swings out in such a manner that the rod 28 drops under the action of the weighted lever 27 and the shiftable bevel gear 24 is brought in engagement with its mate. Y
A lever 35 engages a notch 39 of the feeler lever 31 and may be operated either by a second control device, to wit, the fork lever 33 or by thefirst-named control device, to wit, the feeler lever 31. The lever 35 passes through a slot 40 of plate 14 and is connected by a spring to the frame of the loom and serves as a. starting and stopping lever for the loom.
Said lever 35 operates a belt shifting device 36 Shown in a diagrammatical manner. At the upper end of said lever 35 a pin 37 is provid-ed which when lever 35 swings out strikes against an arm 38, of the pawl 16 and disengages the latter from the stop 17, the lever 13 being now free to move. But-even when lever 35 is free to move the brake cannot be brought into action as a stud 41 fixed to lever l 13 rests still on the starting and stop lever 35.
The lever 29 is provided with a pin 42 which abuts on lever 35 if the latter has been moved as aforesaid the cam 30 being out of contact with the feeler lever 31. Fig. 4 shows the levers 29 and 35 in the starting position.
On the cani shaft 25 a cam 45 is fastened which operates a roller 46 journalled in an arm 47 of a rod 48. The rod 48 stands under the action of a spring 49 which presses the rod 48 downwardly. In the head 50 of the rod 48 a cam 51 is slidably mounted which enters a slot 52 of a segment 53 rotatably mounted on the support 56. If the rod 48 moves down again the segment 53 is rotated in the direction of the arrow P Fig. 2. At the end of its way the cam 51 releases the segment 53 and the latter returns to its initial position under the action of a spring 57. The motion of the segment 53 is transferred by means of a chain 55 to the lever 35 which enters into the recess 39 of feeler lever 31. The lever 35 shifts the levers 13 and 29 by means of the studs 41, 42 until they assume their working position (Fig. 3). The feeler lever 31 carries the pawl 60, the fork 61 being of known construction is fastened to its lever in the well known manner.
lThe brake Vis brought into operation not only to stop t-he looni in the changing of shuttles, but also when the lever is moved out of the recess 39, .which latter may be effected by any one of three operations, namely, by the action of the reed release, the act-ion of the weft guard as when a weft thread is broken, and the action of the warp stop motion as when a warp thread is broken and the lever 58 strikes against the projection 59 on the lay 83. y
To change the shuttle the shuttlebox is opened, the exhausted shuttle is pushed out of it and another shuttle is introduced. It frequently happens that the shuttle sticks with its point to the picker which occasions trouble. To prevent this an arm 86 (Figs. 729) is provided which is fastened to a shaft which shaft co-operates with the device for opening and closing the shuttle bon. Arm 86 operates a lever 87 the end of which is provided with a pin engaging a slot of the arm 86. The lever 87 is pivoted at 84 to the lay 83. A lever 88 is pressed on to the lever 87 by means of a spring 89 9). If the shuttle box is opened shaft 85 is turned in the direction of the arrow Q (Fig. 7) and the lever 88 comes to rest on the picker 90. Previously the picker 90 has been pushed forward in the direction given by the arrow by means of a spring 91 and the lever 92 which lever 92 is connected to the picker 90 by a flexible connecting piece `93 (Fig. 8). The picker 90 is withdrawn from the shuttle 8O in a direction opposite to arrow g until the point of the shuttle 80 is free of the picker 90. The shuttle 8O is held in its position by friction and remains in its assumed position in the shuttle box until the picker strikes against it. The aforesaid action takes place as soon as the device to change the shuttle starts its action. To operate said device a cam 120 is provided which cam actuates the shuttle changing motion, whichincludes the means to open the shuttle box, the means to free the shuttle, the means to close the shuttle box, the latter operation being effected by the cooperation of the spring 94'1 (Fig. 16).
rllhe device for changingthe shuttle according to Figs. 10 to 12 which is adapted for underpick looms comprises a cam 124 arranged on shaft 25 near the cam 120. The cam 120 operates the means to change the shuttle by means of a rod 121. The Yrod 121 is actuated by a lever 123 with a roller 122 which latter runs on the said cam 120. rlhe cam 124 operates a lever 125 pivoted to theV loom frame 2. The lever 125 is provided with a slot 126 and in the slot 126 projects a pin 127 which is fastened to the shuttle shifter 129 slidably mounted in a guide 128. The shifter is mov-ed over an are the` center of which is in the axis of the lay whereby theV changing of the shuttle in underpick looms is made possible thereby. A spring 130 is provided to swing the lever 125 on to the lay 83.
To push-out one shuttle and to insert another onc the shuttle bon is opened by the rod lib Leeae'o? 1121. The picker 90 is moved away from the shwttle vdescribed above and the shuttle is pushed lout by the lpush rod 131 acted on by a the arm 133 is .pivotedV 1f a shuttle falls on the arm .the falling shuttle releases a dev-.ice which t.permits the insertion vof a shuttle only after the empty kshuttle has been re-` moved. The ile-ver 138 by moving downward brings the .paw-1141 .out of the path of a stoppin 142 fixed'to the shuttle-feeder. If the shuttle is beingfchanged thecam shaft 25 makes but onefturn. vAs soon as'rod 157 attains its uppe'riuest:position the-lever i159 is moved out of .the reeess162 of gear 160.v The rod 1.61 and the gear 1.60 are moved by the spring 167 and the pawl 159 comes to rest on -a tooth 166. At the same time `the `shear is opened. The rod 1.61 is provided with an arm 1.63 `and with a set screwin said arm, the pawl 159v is provided with acnose 165. 1f the lay l83stri'lses against the setfscrew 164 the rod 161 drawn out of the casing and the vgear 166 is advanced by `one tooth whereby the shear performs a cutting operation. As long as pawl 159 rests on .the teeth 166, .the nose 168 of rod 161 cannot engage the nose 165 of the pawl 159. After the rod 161 has been advanced thrice and atter the shear has performed ythree times its .cutting motion the paw'l 159 passes again into .arecess 162. 'The nose 168 engages now nose 165 and the shear is only worked again after the pawl 159 has :been lifted by the cam 156. 1n operation, with the .parts .in the position depicted in Figures 1 and 2, lthe machine or loom is operating under normal working conditions.
