Description
H. B. WALBRIDGE.
Window-Screen, No. 169,210. I Patente,d0c t.26,1875.
ATTDRNEYS.
UNITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY B. WALBRIDGE, OF BROOKLYN, N W YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN WINDOW-SCREENS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No; 169,210, dated October 26, 1875; application tiled September 11, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY B. WALBRIDGE, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Adjustable Window-Screens,
- of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a front view of a window, to which my improved screen has been applied, part of the casing being broken away to show the construction.
Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved screen for windows, which shall be so constructed that it maybe readily applied to windows of difl'erent widths, and which shall be simple of construction, easily applied to the windows, and efiective in use,
' prevent the wires from becoming loose or stretched. The ends of the strip of netting O are attached to and wound around two small rollers, D, of a length equal to the Fig. 2 is a horizontal sec-- tion of the same taken through the line 00 w,
width of the netting 0, so that by winding the netting upon or unwinding it from the rollers D the screen may be adjusted to a narrower or wider window, as may be required. E are spring-clamps, having a hook or open ring formed upon them to receive the rollers D, and the netting wound upon them, and to hold the said netting from unwinding. The ends of the springs E are so formed as to press against the rear and forward sides of the sash-groove, and press the rollers D and J the netting wound upon them against the parting-bead of the sash-grooves, so as to keep the screen in its place, and allow no space between the screen and the casing for the flies and mosquitoes to find their way through. When the screen has been secured in place the sash Bis lowered upon its upper edge. The spring-clamps E may be made in one or two pieces, as may be convenient, and should be strong enough to hold the screen securely in place, and elastic enough to enable the screen to be readily put in and taken out.
Havingthus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An improved adjustable window -screen, formed by the combination of the wire-netting G, the rollers D, and the spring-hook clamps E with each other to adapt it to be applied 'to a window, substantially as herein shown and described.
HENRY B. WALBRI DGE.
