It is well-known that phonographs have 4been extremely popular and that that popularit is, in some instances, being supplanted by t e popularity'of radio apparatus. In other cases it is desired to possess both a phonograph and a radio apparatus. In any pase the possession of both a phonograph and the neck 17 to the horn. When the`member 19 im a radio apparatus is somewhat. expensive and furthermore these twol apparatuses together take up a great deal of room. By my invention, however, I reduce the expense toa considerable extent by making use of the Aone amplifyinghorn with both the phonograph and the radio receiving set and thus also make possible the placing of b'oth pieces of apparatus in one cabinet, thereby materially reducing the amount of space necessary.
Referring now to the drawings and particularly to Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive, the numeral 1 designates a cabinet of any suitable construction and having therein an amplifying horn 2. The cabinet'furt-her comprises tlie=`usual motor board 3, on which is mountedthe phonograph turn-table 4, which is perated-by any suitable mechanism.. The cahinet l further contains a-radio receiving set of any suitable construction. In this embodinient, Ihave shown the receiving set as supported uponthe'motor board 3 and access to .both phonograph andradio receiving set is had hy lifting the covers (3.
JConnected to theV radio receiving set', by suitable means 7, is a loud speaker 8 and itis understood that 'the sounds received on the radio receiving sets are to be transmitted from the loudspeaker 8 to the amplifying horn 2, as are also the sounds from the tonef arm 9 of the phonograph, which is mounted on the motor board.
Suspended on the under side of the motor board 3 isa'. valve preferably comprising a casing 10 in the general form of a Y, having the three legs- 11, 12v and 13 which contain passages leading respectively to the tonearm, loud speaker and amplifying horn. It will beseen that the leg 11 is provided with a. flange 14 by 'which the valve may be secured to the under side ofthe motor board as `by bolts or screws. The leg 12 receives one end of a neck 15 which is provided at its end 16 with a means to receive the loud speaker 8.

Suitable means is'providcd for rotating` the member 19 to bring thc passageway 20 into either of the above described positions and this means is exei'npliti'ed b v n lug 2l preterably integral with the member 19 and carrying a screw 22 supporting a pinion 52S and a bracket 24. The pinion 2? is made fast; to the lug by any suitable mcansQ, while the bracket-@iis loosely' supported on the screw 22. 'The bracket 2l rotatably supports a hub 26 of a. pinion 2i", which-is disposed at right angles 'to the pinion' Q3 and meshes therewith. The operating rod 2S is provided with means to turn thesame from the outside of the cabinet and in this instance such means consists of a knurled knob 31.`c mnected to the operating rod' 28 by a universal joint 32, providing means whereby thc l-:nob 31 may be placed at any desired location upon the outside wall of the cabinet Suitable indieating means for showing the position 'ot the valve is provided by a pointer 33 o'n -the 'knob 31, which will co-Operate with suitable legends upon the wall'nf the cabinet. The movement of the valve member-19 is limited by a suitable stop 34, carried by Vthe member and engaging' a suitable member 35 upon the casing. The member 19 is held in place by thestop 34;,.ivhich overhangs the edge of the opening and also' bya screw 86,
. mounted on the other end of the member and engaging the other edge of the opening.
By this construction a simple turning movement of the knob 31 willv serve to operate the valve so that. the' horn may be used with either the radio receiving set or the phonograph,.the loca-tiony of the v alve being indicated by the pointer 33. It is of course understood that the valve may also be' used to cut dmv-n the volume of sound coming either from the phonograph or radio receiving set, if such result is desired. In either position of the valve a smooth continuous passage Will-be provided for the full volume of sound coming through the horn and in making my valve in the form of'a Y supported immediately underneath the motor board, I make it ,possible to reduce' the cost of manufacture to -a minimum, as substantially all that I require are tvvocastings, the other pagts being 'stock material. i
Figs. 6 and 7 show my invention embodied inadilerent form of cabinet, thev cabinet in this case being of the form vwherein the horn 2 sdireetly under thephonograph tone-arm 9 and wherein the radio receiving apparatus 5 is' placed directly under the horn. This form of cabinet has many advantages, in that it is more' compact and' because of the position ol the radio receiving apparatus directly under the horn where it is placed in a drawer which mayY easily be pulled out.
