Description

T. B. GARR.
Tobacco-Hanger.
No. 169,095. I Patented Oct. 26,1875.
Q J I fun WITNESSES.- I 7 lNVENTOR lvnrnn STATES PATENT OFFICE,
THOMAS E. GARE, OF LomsvILLE, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOBACCO-HANGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169.095, dated October 26, 1875; application filed 1 May 14,11575.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS E. GARE, of the city of Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Devices for Holding Leaf-Tobacco; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same. reference being had to the "accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, in which the figure is a front view or elevation ofmy device, showing its construction and application.
My invention consists in the use of small pieces of wire of any required size or length, with loops formed on the side at intervals of about three or four inches apart, as shown in the drawing, to which loops the bundles of tobacco are secured by meansof a cord which is first fastened to the end of the wire and afterward passed around each bundle of tobacco and loop on the wire until a sufficient number is thus secured, when the end of the cord is temporarilylastened to the wire so as to be easily loosened when required. is
The object of my invention is to provide a tobacco-hanger to which the leaves are secured in such manner that while in the process of manufacture they may be immersed in the liquid preparation, and passed through the squeezers without the necessity of removing them from such hanger, after which the tobacco still secured to the hanger can be hung up to dry.
It will thus appear that the tobacco, after once being secured to the hangers, need not be removed therefrom until required for use, thereby obviating much handling, and saving a consequent loss of time.
, It is composed of a piece of wire, F, formed with upright loops G, to which bundles H of leaves are secured by a cord, J. This cord is attached to one end of the wire, is passed once or more around each loop and bundle, and then temporarily fastened at the other end of the wire, so as to be readily loosened when necessary. The handling of the tobacco when thus arranged in the process of manufacture, as above described, is greatly facilitated.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is Atobacco hanger com posed of a looped wire, F G, and binding-cord J, substantially as and for the purpose described.
THOMAS B. GARE. Witnesses:
W. W. Dawson, FRANK PARDON.
