GEORGE MYERS, 0E PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT I N CLOTHES-DRIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,843, dated October 19, 1875; 'application led September 25, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE MYERS, of the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ulothes-Driers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a clear and exact description of the nature thereof, sufcient to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to fully understand, make, and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification, in Which- Figure 1 is a sideelevation of the device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a top`or plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is an enlarged view ofthe foot of the drier. Fig. et is a vertical section thereof.
Similar letters of reference, indicate correspondingv parts in the several figures.
One of the difculties of Wooden clothesdriers having frames hinged to the central beam or post is their liability to fall, especially when the drier is tilted, in which case the frames give and deprive the drier of the support necessary to keep it upright.
My invention has for its object the remedy ofthe aforesaid defect; and for this purpose it consists in a boss pendent from the upper end ofthe metal foot, for increasing the weight ofthe base of the drier, and affording additional surface for attachment of the beam.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the central beam or post, to which are pivoted frames B, which are adapted to fold against or on the beam, and when required for use they are unfolded, so that their outer upright bars C rest on the oor, as shown in Fig. l.
To the bars O there are pivoted smaller frames D, which fold against or on said bars O, and are adapted to operate similar to the frames B, their object being to support small articles Without the necessity of reaching high. To the bottom of the beam A there is secured a foot or base, E, which is constructed of three or more diverging feet, throughan opening in the central point of the union of which thebeam A is passed. From the inner face of the upper end of the base E there depends or projects downwardly a boss, F, which is cast with the base, and through the boss is passed the lower end of the beam A.
It will be seen that the boss F addsan additional Weight to the base E,and dsposes said weight near the floor on which the dlrier rests, so that the drier will be most rmly supported and prevented from overtnrnin g. Moreover, the boss increases the surface of attachment of the beam to the base, whereby the said attachment is strengthened, and loosening ofthe beam is prevented, which advantage is furtherinsured by pins a., passed through the4 beam throughA or below the boss.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The frames B, central beam A, and metallic base E, in combination With the boss F, depending or projecting downward from the central portion of the base, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
