PATENT oFFICE.

SUSPENSORY.
' Application filed Augustv 23, 1927. Serial No. 214,907.
This invention relates to athletic supporters of a type known commonly assuspensories or jock-straps and has for its principal object to provide an article of this character combining its usual feature for protecting the wearer together with means for recording the striking of al blow upon the front portion of the body at which the supporter is worn.
The device is thereby admirably adapted for use by pugilists to positively establish the striking of afoul blow upon the stomach below the belt line.
Another object of the invention is lto provide an inflatable protector adapted to cover a substantial portion of the vstomach of the wearer and arranged to prevent injury lto the wearer should a blow be struck at that portion of the body. v
A further object is to provide an article of this character which will not interfere with or hamper the free movement of the wearer, which does not increase the weight of the garment, which is strong and durable, inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the' same is intended.
@ther objects and advantages reside in the special construction, combination and arrangement of the various elements forming 3o the invention as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying` drawing forming part hereof,` wherein like numeralsV refer to like parts through the specification and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view .looking to.-
ward the front of the article, and
Figure 2 is an elevational view with the front shield shown in vertical section.
Referring now .to the drawing in detail, my invention comprises an elastic belt 5 at the rear of which is arranged a pair of straps 6 extending downwardly and merging with each other to form a single strap which is adapted to extend between the legs of the wearer in a forward direction. At the front of the belt is formed a pad 8 of'a relatively wide area adjacent the belt portion and exj tending downwardly into a reduced section tor ceanectan with the. trent sind of 'the 'through striking the carbon paper. .in a boxing contest should one of the con- 70 strap 7, said' pad being adapted to substan'- `50' tially cover the stomach and genital organs of. the wearer. The pad constitutes a con-Y talnerY for a'relatively flattube 9 having an air valve 10 arranged in the front side there of by means of which the tube may be inflated with a desired pressure of air.
Apocket 1l is formed in the pad between the rear of the tube and the rear lining of the pad 12,V said pocket .being open at itsl upper edge and adapted when the tube is deflated to have a sheet of carbon paper 13 arranged therein together with a sheet of ordi i nary paper 14, preferably white, the paper being arranged rearward of the carbon paper and adapted to engage the carbon side thereof. Thus it is apparent that should a blow bestruck upon the pad the force thereof will serve to make an impression upon the paper Thus testants claim that a blow has been struck below the belt, the condition of the paper within the pocket of the pad will positively establish the facts.
Furthermore, the liability of'injury to the 75 wearer of the belt will be materially lessened by reason of the inflated tube reducing the force of the blow.
It is obvious the invention is susceptible of various changes and modications withgf, out departingI from the spirit of the same or the scope of the appended claims, and I accordingly claim all such forms of the invention to which 'I am entitled.
I claim S5,
l. An athletic supporter comprising a belt.r straps attached at the rear thereof and adapted to extend forwardly through the legs ol" theA wearer, a pad arranged at the Vfront of the belt having its lower edge'connected with 90 said straps, said pad adapted to substantially cover the stomach of the wearer and the genital organs, an inflatable tube arrangedwithin the pad, a pocket formed in the pad rearwardly of' the tube and open at its upper end 95 and adapted to carry one or more sheets of carbon paper and writing paper' arranged in a position whereby to cause itnpressi to be made upon the Writing paper upon the striking of a blow upon any portion of the pad.
2. ln combination, a body attaching mem- 5 ber, an inflatable pad secured thereto and a,
sheet of flexible impression recording material removably carried by said pad.
3. In combination, a body attaohing member, an inflatable pad secured thereto and a sheet of flexible impression recording material removably carried by said pad and disposed between said pad andthe body.
In testimony whereof l aiiX my signature.
