GAUGE.
Application filed March 28, 1927. Serial No. 178,8 22.
' My invention relates to gauges, and especially to gauges for determining the. number, or size, of a saxophone key pad.
As is well known in the musical instrument art a saxophone carries a plurality of key [pads in various sizes, all being substantially (circular in formation and relatively fiat.v
a gauge for readily determining the size, or
number, of any key pad to enable accuracy and expedition in ordering new pads for replacement purposes.
Other objects of the invention are men- 'tioncd and described herein. I
The preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated on the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a top plan view of the gauge; Fig. 2 is a similar view of the reverse side thereof; Fig. 3, is a side key and pad; Fig. 4 is a fragment of the gauge showing the handle provided with certain instructions thereon; and Fig. 5 is an end View of the gauge. 7
Similarnumerals of reference indicate like elements in the several views on the drawing.
Referring to the details of the drawing the numeral 1 indicates the gauge body, in bar formation, preferably made straight and of. relatively thin flat metal, and provided with the hook-l ke flange 2 at its outer end. The surface of one side of the gauge bar is provided with a series of numerals 3, which inay be in sequence, from 5 to 25 inclusive, extending longitudinally of the gauge surface, and a short transverse straight line f extending away from each of said numerals toward the marginal edge of the gauge body.
Each of the lines & opposite the numerals 5 to 25 inclusive represents the number of a full size key pad, as applied'by the manufacturer, and there being also so-called half size pads, the short lines 6 drawn between certain of the lines 4 indicate such half size pads.
view of the common form or type of circular saxophone key pad mounted inthe usual cup or carrier 8, the former, as is well known,
The numeral 7 in Fig. 3 indicates a side being usually built of a disk of felt covered with kid leather, the latter of which hardens and deteriorates from moisture and use;
In the application of my invention the gauge hook 2 is placed against one side of the pad cup 8 which causes the oppositemarginal edge of the pad cup to register size pad, or with one of the short lines 6, indicating the half size pad. The handle of with one of the lines 4,1'epresenting a full the gauge bar carries instruction indicia, to
down, as indicated by the numeral 9, to assist the operator in the use of the gauge.
I claimz I LA padgauge'comprising a gauge bar, there being indicia on the bar indicating the )pad number, and means on the bar adapted to contact one side of the pad, whereby the opposite. side thereof is caused. to register withindiciaon said gauge bartoindicate the pad number. 7 p I 2-. A pad gauge comprisinga gauge bar, there being indicia on the bar indicating a pad number, said indicia including a series of numerals extending longitudinally of the bar, and means on the 'bar adapted to contact with one side of the pad carrier, whereby the opposite side of said carrier is caused to register with one oflsaid numerals to indicate the pad number. l
3. A pad gauge comprising a there being indicia on the bar indicating the padjnumber, including full and. half sizes thereof, and means on the bar adapted to gauge bar,
wit: Short lines, Half sizes, and Read contact with one side of the pad carrier,
.whereby the opposite side of the pad carrier is caused to register with indicia on said bar to indicate the number of a full size or a half size pad. 7 v
4. A pad gauge comprising a gauge bar, there being indicia on the bar indicat ng a pad number, or size, said indicia including a series of numerals'extending longitudinally of the bar, and indicia intermediate certam of said numerals to indicatea half size pad, and means on the bar adapted tocontact with one side of a pad mount, whereby the opposite side of said pad mount is caused to register with the indiciaon saldbar to'indicate the number of a full size pad, or a half sizepad.
In witness w ereof I have aflixed mysignature this 25th day'of' March, 1927.
