My invention relates to a novel Spool used as a shipping spool to carry solder, wire tape and leather belting and for like purposes.
I attain the objects of my 'invention by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of myinvention with a portion of the cylinder of the spool broken awa to show the construction .0 of one of the hea s;

Referring to the accompanying drawings I provide a pair of spool heads each of which consists of a disc 1 of paper, fiber or other suitable material having a short cylinder or thimble 3 atixed to it by nails 5, the heads 6 of which are driven into the displ 1 as shown 'in Fig. 3 and the nails have their ends 7 bent into hook shape to engage a m'etal ring 8 which rests on the end ofthe stub paper cylinder 3.

A spool of the type described, comprising a tubular barrel, a pair of heads mounted on each end of the barrel, these heads comprising a disc and a stub cylinder, nails driven through the disc and in contact with -the outer surface of the stub cylinder, a metal ring resting on the free end of the stub cylinder, the nails having their' ends bent to engage over the'aforesaid metal ring 60 to securely hold the stub cylinder to the disc, the stub cylinder and the tubular barrel also being fastened together by a,substantial glue or cement.
