' Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Like numerals indicate like parts in each |5 of the several views.
Referring to the accompanying drawings I provide a pair of spool heads each of which consists of a disc 1 of paper, fiber or other suitable material having a short cylinder or thimble 3 atixed to it by nails 5, the heads 6 of which are driven into the displ 1 as shown 'in Fig. 3 and the nails have their ends 7 bent into hook shape to engage a m'etal ring 8 which rests on the end ofthe stub paper cylinder 3.
I providean opening 2 in disc l'aligned with 'channel 4 through the cylinder 3 as shown in Fig. 3. Glue is applied to the outer surface of the stub paper cylinder or thimble ,3 and a tubular spool barrel 9 of paper, fiber or any suitable material is inserted over this stub paper cylinder in the manner shown in Figs. 1 and 3 to-form the prising a disc and a stub cylinder, nails 45 driven through the disc and `in Contact with the outer surface of the stub cylinder, a
, metal ring resting on the free end of the stub cylinder, the nails having their ends bent to engage over the aforesaid metal ring to se- 5o curely hold the stub cylinder to the disc.
2. A spool of the type described, comprising a tubular barrel, a pair of heads mounted on each end of the barrel, these heads comprising a disc and a stub cylinder, nails driven through the disc and in contact with -the outer surface of the stub cylinder, a metal ring resting on the free end of the stub cylinder, the nails having their' ends bent to engage over the'aforesaid metal ring 60 to securely hold the stub cylinder to the disc, the stub cylinder and the tubular barrel also being fastened together by a,substantial glue or cement.
