SHIPPING TAG.
Application filed. July 2,
This invention relates to an improved shipping' tag' for quickly tying;l packages With the tag in proper position on the package.
A further object oil my invention resides in the provision of a shipping; tag); having; means thereon for receiviin;` and holding;a the Trapp' e' cord ot' a package. l also provide means "for cutting' said cord used in Wrapping and tying! the package.
tOther objects will appear hereinafter and l attain these objects by the construction illnstrated in the accompanyingdrawing' in which Figure 1 is a plan view oi my improved tan:
Figure 2 is aside view thereoi1 Figure 3 is an end view thereof Figure 4f is a vievv of a package having my improved tan' appliefl thereto Figure 5 is a sectional view of the tag taken on the line SM5 of Figure l Figure (i shows the assembly rivet With the cutting' head Fipjiire 7 is a plan view of the tag' as applied to a package and having` the cutting head and cord holding; disk removed, and
Fiejare il shows the cord holding' head.
The same numerals refer to like parts lhro rout the several views.
. :ring now to the drawing'. the body lo oiC the 'tan' may be oi any desired material as paper, metal. nbre or composition mate rial a 'l it may assume any convenient or desired shape tor the purpose at hand. For the mostv eiiicient use in cord tying', l prefer to torni the head oi the Without sharp corners and the rounded head 11 represents my preferred form of construction. On the one side oi the tag, at or near the head, is the cord holding' disk 12 and on the other side thereof the aline' member 13. These mem.w bers are n?. l by the assembly rivet 14E in the manner `best shown in Fi 3 and 5.
The cord directing' and holding' disk, as its name implies, serves to direct the tie cord 15 and also to anchor the same. This disk may be ci paper or metal, or other material or com binations of materials, and is providedrivith a radial slot 16 lor receiving and directing the Wrapping cord into one of the serra- 1927. Serial No. 203,087.
tionsl of the cutting head 18 on the assembly rivet 1l rlhis rivet may be of any suitable form and I have shown the hollow clincher rivet as Well. fitted for assembling and holding together the cord holding` disk `and sealing member on the tag.
l will now describe the method of using' my tag in tying a package, which may be ofiany size or shape. lf the same is 'Hat as shown in Fig. l at 30, I place the tag thereon with the head at or near the tying point of the string1 15. The end 31 of stringi' .l5 is passed under the cord holding` disk then around the package and again under the disk 12 for one or more Winds as may be desired, then around the package at right angles to the first tie loop and again under the disk for one or more Winds and then into slot 16 Where itis cut oil at 2 by being pulled onto the cutting' edges oi' the teeth 17 on the head 18 of the rivet 14. The sealing member 13 which may be `e'ummed paper or rammed cloth, is
then sealed over the edges of the tag and disk as is best shown in Figs. 4l and The package is then ready for shipping. It will be apparent that With my tagand by my method of Wrapping a package is tied secure and tagged very quickly at a great saving of time and labor.
That I claim is:
1. A shipping' tag comprising a body part in combination with a disk having a slot therein, a sealing' member on the body part for overlapping an edge of the disk. and an assembly member consisting of a hollow rivet having` a head for securingr said disk and seal ing` member on to the body part7 said head overying a portion of said disk and having a cutting' edge covering the inner part of the slot.
2. A shippingr tag comprising a body part, a disk on said body part7 a strip for sealing the disk and the body part toe-ether, an as sembly member for holding,r together the disk and sealing strip and a cutting head on the assembly member.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand on this 29th day of J une A. D., 1927.
