Description
A. F. WHITING. seal-Lck. No. 168,070. i Patented sept. 21,1875.-
g UNEEED STATES ANDREW F. WHITING, OF ORES'ILINE, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN SEAL-LOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [68,070, dated September 21, 1875; application led March 20, 1875. i
will enable others skilled in the art to whichl it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, in Which- A Figurel is a plan view of my improved seal-lock. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same, with the locking mechanism removed.`
Fig.3 is a detached sectional view of the locking mechanism. Fig. 4 is a like viewof the same, exhibiting the lacking-bolts in trans` is detached side verse section, and Fig. 5 views of two of the locking-- bolts.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters.
This invention relates to a certain improvement in seal-locks, and it consists of a case tting Within, and having boltsfor locking it in, a second case, having-an internal ange, behind which the bolts fit, or are projected, provision being made for the reception, and securing a seal over the key-hole, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, A refers to a case with the locking-bolts B B, which are projected through the same by springs O. The bolts B B are retracted by downward pressure on the key D, inserted through the keyopening E in the top plate a ot' the case A, and pressing` at its notched end against inclined shoulders or projections b b on vthe bolts. In the said top plate a, on either side of the key-opening,is van opening, c, 4to expose to vview the initials of the railroad cornpany, and number of the car on the seal inserted through alateral opening, c', in the said case, under Vthe said plate, when the lock isv A plate, -F,
used for securing a car-door. i hinged-to a stud or projection on the case which receives'the case A, covers and protects the key-opening, &c. The inner portion of the case A being contracted, an annular lock it in place.
jection, Gr, on the inner side of the receiving- V case H, behind which the bolts B B are projected when the case A is inserted therein to A projection, e,- is formed on the external circumference of the case A, and projects into an opening, h, of the receiving-case H, to prevent the case A from turning when locked in place. The receiving-case H is rmly bolted in place, as shown', and is formed with an extension, t', through which projects a -stout stud or projection, I, rmly bolted in place, and which permits of the attachment to the lock of a hasp, J, or other meanspfor assisting in securing thedoor, a pin, K, passing transversely through the stud or projection I, With its head or enlarged portion ,next'to thelock, for securing the hasp upon .the projection or stud. lhe opening h, above alluded to, permits of the withdrawal ot' the y pin K from the projection or stud I, to release the hasp when the locking-case A is removed from its case H.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The locking-case A, having the springbolts B B b b, in combination with the receiving-case H, having the internal flange or projection Gr, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The locking-case A, having the springbolts B B, the lateral openin g cqior the insertion of a seal, and the openings c c, for viewing the same, in combination with the receivingcase H G, substantially as described.
3. The locking-case A, having the springbolts B B, and the projection @,vin combination with the case H G, having the opening h, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
4. The combination of the locking-case A, having the spring-bolts B B, and receivingcase H Gr, having the opening h, with the pin K, stud or projection I, and hasp J, or its equivaient, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony thatI claim the foregoing' as my own I afx my signature in presence of two witnesses. y
