My invention relates to improvements in governor control for internal combustion engines and more particularly to improve ments in that type of governor control 5 known as the hitand-miss type.
The object of my invention is to provide amcans for controlling the admission of fuel and the ignition thereof in an internal combustion engine which is simple to inanufacture, easy to assemble and pos1t1ve in its action.
Although my invention consists largely in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and partlc-ularly pointed out in the claims, yet I do not l1m1t my invention to the precise form, construction or arrangement of parts shown or the several parts thereof, inasmuch as various alterations may be made without changing 20 the scope of my invention.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is an end v ew of a preferred form of my invention as mounted on an engine, partially in section; Fig. 2 is a detail drawing of a pivoted member preferably employed in my invention; Fig. 3 is elevational view partially in section, of an internal combustion engine making use of a preferred form of my invention; and Fig. 1 is a viewpartially in section of a fragment of the valve rod and contacting mechanism.
Referring by numerals to the drawings, the member 5 is preferably pivoted on the bracket or support 6 at 7. The support 6 is pivoted at to bracket 9 which is preferably mounted on the engine as shown. Attached rigidly to the support 6 may be placed regulator handle 10 preferably made out of spring steel and" carrying a raised edge 11. The edge 11 may be made to engage with depressions 12 in portion of the bracket 9. These depressions serve to hold the handle 10 and with it the carrier 6.

This action will continue until the speed of the engine has fallen sufficiently so that the end 16 of the member 5 is released from engagement with shoulder 17.
The support'6, preferably being pivoted to the bracket'9 at 8, permits the fulcrum 7 of member 5 to be moved towards oraway from the governor spindle 14: by means'of the handle 10 and, since the position of the spindle 14 is different for different speeds of theenginathis affords anefiicient means for regulating the speed of the engine.
The valve rod 18 preferably has attached to it the collar 24: which serves as a contact member for my timing device as described in my application filed October 9, 192 1,v

Plate'25 is preferably carried by the valve rod supportmember 26 and is insulated therefrom by piece 27. At 28 is shown the roller which acts in conjunction-with cam 29 to operate the valve rod 18. It is evident that when the end 16 of the pivoted member 5 has been interposed behind shoulder 17 of the valve rod 18 through the action of the governor weights 15 and spindle 1 1, the result will be directly with the said governor, and another portion thereof being adapted as an abut-- ment for said push-rod.

In an internal combustion engine, in combination with a valve, a reciprocating valve rod, an ad ustable bracket, a pivoted member mounted on said bracket and adapted to control said valve, said bracket being arcuately movable, and adapted as a fulcrum for said pivoted member, and a governor controlling said member, and in direct operative association therewith.
3. In an internal combustion engine, in combination with an exhaust valve, areciprocating valve rod, a pivoted member adapted to control said exhaust valve, an angularly adjustable fulcrum for said member, means for swinging said fulcrum about a pivot, a governor controlling said member, and indirect operative association therewith.
4. In an internal combustion engine, in combination with an exhaust valve and a pu'sh rOd therefor, a bracket, a pivoted lever, having a fulcrum onsaid bracket and adapted to prevent the closing of said exhaust valve, manually movable means for imparting a rocking movement to said bracket and fulcrum, and a governor controlling said lever, said l everconstituting an operative con nection between said governor and said valve rod. j
