MEDICINAL INSTRUMENT.
Application filed August 10, 1927. Serial No. 212,064.
This invention relates to a device for facilitating the introduction of medicinal powders andv the like in the mouth and threat, the general object of the invention heir to provide a hollow stem having a tongue depressor at one end thereof and a dosage receiver removably arranged at the other end, with means for inserting the nipple of a bulb in the receiver so that by depressing the bulb, the air from the bulb will cause the powder from the receiver to pass through the hollow stem and thus enter the mouth and throat of the patient.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement or" the several parts, to be hereinafter to histrated in the acccanpan z drawings and spccilicall; pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will he had to the accompanying drawings wherein like clurractcrs denote like or corresponding; parts throughout the sevoral. views, and in which lligure l is a pespective view oi? the deure 2 is a sectional view thereof. are 3 is a plan view, oi the device .'-3ll)\\",.]l' the hippie ot a bulb about to be inserted thcrci F i gruie 4: a view of the holder and bulb.
Flgl'ljll'fl 5 is a per-spectiveview or" the holder.
in these views, 1 indicates a hollow sten which is formed with a tongue depressor 2 at one end thereot. this cne the hollow portion being shaped to form nozzle ii. holder 4; for powder and the like is adapted to be inserted. in the other end of the stem, this holder beingof rectangular shape, with cup-shaped flange 5 at its outer end and its inner portion being cut away, as at 6, so that the powder or the like can be placed therein.
After the proper amount of powder has been placed in the holder, the holder is placed in the stem and then the nipple 7 of a bulb 8 is passed into the holder, the
lly described, il-
flange 5 facilitatin the entrance of the nipple therein. Then the bulb is depressed so that the air therefrom will cause the powder to pass through the device and be ejected against the walls of the mouth and throat Huh this device, the tongue can be held down by the part 2- and even though the patient should close his mouth, the powder can still be erected through the stem. The
device can be used with an ordinary atomizer bulb or any other kind or bulb.
is will be seen, this device can be readily taken apart and placed in a. sterilizer, as it is entirely :lormed of metal and it can also be placed in the coat pocket or in a doctors has: without tear of injuring it. p
it is thought from the foregoing" description that the advantages and novel features 01": my invention will be readily apparent.
desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes all within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A device of the class described comprising; a tubular stem, a tongue depressor liorincd at one end of the stem, a tubular holder rcmovablv fitting; in the other end of the stem, said holder having a cup-shaped flange at its outer end and its inner end bcing; cut away to receive powder or the like.
2. A device of the class described comprisinr; a tubular stem, a tubular holder removablv fitting: in one end of the stem, said holder having: a cup-shaped flange at its outer end and its inner end being cut away to rccci ve powder or the like and a bulb having a nipple thereon which isadapted to c11- tor the holder so that the contents oi: the holder can be ejected "from the devic by depressing the bulb.
in testimony whereof I aliix my signature.
