TRACK SANDER.

This invention relates to track sanding devices, and more particularly track sanding devices especially designed for use in connection with the sand boxes of locomotives wherein air pressure is employed for forcing the sand from the sand boxes.
An important object of the invention is to rovide means whereby the sandy will have a ree passageway through the device, eliminating any possibility ofthe sand collecting adjacent to the outlet to defeat the purpose of the invention.
A further object of the invention is to provide means for connecting the air nozzles to the body portion of the device, whereby the nozzles may be readily and easily disconnected to facilitate the cleaning of the nozzles and replacement thereof should the nozzles become worn or otherwise rendered inoperative.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being. understood that changes in the recise embodiment of the invention herein isclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference character 5 indicates the body portion of the trap which is supplied with end bores 6 eiztending vertically therethrough, which end bores are provided with threaded walls to accommodate the plugs 7 that close the lower ends thereof.
Centrally disposed vertical bores 8 are formed in the body portion and have threads at the upper ends thereof to accommodate the plugs 9 for closing the upper ends of 1924. Serial No. 715,640.

As clearly illustrated by Figure 4 of the drawings, the bores 6 at the outer ends of the body portion 5 communicate with the bores 8 arranged centrally thereof, through the passageways 10, which passageways taper towards the end bores 6 providing relatively wide spaces adjacent to the central bores 8 to insure against the sand clogging the passageways to restrict the passage of the sand from the trap.
Air nozzles 11 are threaded and positioned in threaded openings provided in the end walls of the trap, the nozzles being provided with openings through which air may pass to the bores 6, the angles of the openings in the nozzles 11 being such as to direct air to the passageways 10 communicating with the bores 6.
Pipes 12 are supplied with unions 13 so that the pipes may be readily secured in positions for supplying the air blast.
Bolt openings 14: are provided in the body portion of the trap and accommodate bolts 15 which are positioned in suitable openings in the sand box, the bottom of the sand box being indicated at 16. From the foregoing it will be obvious that when air is directed to the bores 6 it passes transversely of the bores picking up sand which falls by gravity from the sand box disposed thereabove, and carries the sand through the passageways 10 where it is deposited in the bores 8, the sand contacting with the walls of the bores directs the same downwardy, to the tracks being sanded.
Should it be desired to remove the air nozzles, it will be obvious that it is only necessary to apply a suitable wrench to the nozzles to remove them, eliminating the necessity of disconnecting the sand trap in order to make minor repairs.
