IMPRCVEMENT IN SPRING-POWER REGULATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,43 5, dated September 7, 1875; application filed June 5, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ORRIN COLLIER, of Sacramento, in the county of Sacramento and State of California, have invented a new and Improved Spring-Power Regulator, of which the following is a specification:
Theinvention will first be described in connection with drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 is a side elevationof a spring-power apparatus with my improved regulator attached. Fig. 2 is a top view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the bandwvheel of the spring-power for working a sewing-machine or other light machine. B is a brake-lever with aforked end for pressing against the wheel, each side of the face in which is the groove for the band, and containing a spring, 0, for hearing with an elastic pressure. The lever has an elbow, E, which is pivoted to the frame at F, and the arm G extends nearly down to the floor, and terminates in a footpiece, H, located so that the operator may conveniently rest the toe or ball of the foot on I it while the heel rests on the floor. Under the foot-piece a spring, I, is attached to it and arranged so that by pressing on the floor it lifts the lever and presses the brake on the wheel, and slows the motion or stops it altogether, according to the force with which it is allowed to act. It serves for stopping and starting the machine at the will of the operator.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with wheel A, of a lever, B E H, forked at the upper end, and having between the forks a spring, 0, constructed as shown, and for the purpose specified.
ORRIN COLLIER.
