This invention relates to pressing machines as garment pressing machines having a valve .for controlling the flow of fluid as steam or air through the pressing face and has for its object a particularly simple and efficient handle arrangement for bringing the head toward the buck of the machine and when .desired, the valve which controls the flow of fluid through the pressing face of the head.

The invention consists in the .novel features and in the combinations and constructions hereinafter set forth and claimed.

Figure 1 is a fragmentary plan view of a machine embodying my invention.

Figure 2 is a fragmentary side elevation.

Figure 3 is a detail view of the mounting for the handle.

l have here illustrated my invention as embodied in a conventional type of pressing machine including a buck 1 and a head 2 movable toward and from the buck; the buck being mounted on a goose neck or bracket 3 which in turn is mounted upon a bench 4 carried by the frame 5 of the machine and the head 2 being carried in any suitable manner to move toward and from the buck.

As here shown, it is carried by a yoke lever 6 pivoted between its ends at 7 to a standard 8 rising from the machine, this yoke being actuated in any well known man- 'ner by means connected to the rear arm thereof, a portion of such means as one link 9 of a toggle being shown.

The yoke is provided with a suitable counterweight 1O tending to open the press and also usually springs, not shown, are employed to act in conjunction withthe weight 10 The head2 as will be skilled in the art is provided with perforations through its pressing face through which steam or air is passed to the garment being pressed; in this manner and the blowing or sucking V is well known, further description is unnecessary for a complete understanding of this invention.

As here shown, the handle'is a lever pivoted on an upwardly extending axis to the head so that the lever is rigid with the head insofar as the up and down movement of the head is concerned, the lever being movable laterally about its pivot in a direction at an angle to the movement of the head to move an arm 14 thereof into engagement with the stem-12.

As here illustrated, a bracket 16 is mounted on the top of the buck and is formed with. upper and lower arms 17 and 18 in which the inclined pivot pin 15 is mounted. If desired, a spring may be used to resist the lateral movement of the lever.

This handle mechanism is advantageous in that it acts,
