NOZZLE FOR ELECTRIC DRIERS,

My invention relates to improvements in construction of nozzles, nozzle guards, and nozzle heater units for electric drying devices. The chief objects of my invention are to create a nozzle for an electric drier which will develop the highest possible mechanical efliciency.
The further object in my'invention is to design an electric heater grid unit, ofthe type which is ordinarily to be inserted in these nozzles, of such construction and mounting that it will provide minimum obstruction in the air passage; that it will contain the greatest possible length of resistor material in the minimum space; that it will be rugged and fireproof, easy to remove and renew or replace; and be simple in construction.
The further object/of my invention is to provide a demountable resistor unit which can be readily positioned in fuse clips and adapt my motor for any voltage. That is to say, that by carrying certain standard windings of resistor readily adapted fuse clips I may use'the same motor on any line voltages encountered and I prefer to mount this variable resistor unit in connection with the general mounting of my nozzle.
-The further object of my inventionlis to provide a nozzle of this type equipped with a suitable guardmounting so that it will not be possible to clog the outlet end of the nozzle by the hands or other objects such as books and also to prevent the nozzle from being easily obstructed by paper wads or rags, and at the same time construct the nozzle guard in such manner that the air stream will not be obstructed; that the guard shall be simple but rugged in design and easily and permanently attached to the nozzle proper without screws.
In order that my invention may be more fully understood reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings in the various figures of which like letters refer to like parts.
Figure 1 is. a diagrammatic wiring diagram showing the electrical wiring in a con-. ventional hot air drier.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the grid resistor unit portion of my device.
Figure 3 is a front elevation of the grid resistor unit portion of my device.
Figure 4 is an end elevation of the grid resistor unit portion of my device.
Figure 5 is an elevation of a section of a typical hot air drying device showing the positioning of my nozzle guard and heat resistor units, a portion of the same being a sectional illustration.
In the drawings similar letters of refer ence denote similar parts in the several views. Referring to Figure 1 the motor armature D is shown connected to the field E. I show my motor resistor unit at C. The ohmic resistance of this unit is varied, depending on the line voltage which is encountered in any particular case and I prefer to make these resistance units in such manner that they maybe mounted in fuse clips .shown in Figure 5 at CC. The fuse clip block BB in Figure 5 being connected to the nozzle by the screws DD. In Figure 1, at B, is shown diagrammatically the con nections of my heating element and the whole circuit is closed by means of the switch A. Referring to the heater unit in Figure 2, I show a plan view of this unit. The terminals K, G are connected when the unit is in place with stationary conductors mounted on the suitable portion of my nozzle proper. The sides J and H of the heater unit slide into the notches or grooves or slots designated Z in Figure 5, so that they may be readily removable and these side portions J and H are connected together by the strip L composed of fibre, mica or other insulating material.
It must be understood that while in my drawings I only show four mica sections I-I any number of such sections may be used. I'also prefer that each end of my mica sections are notched so that they register with corresponding notches in the top and bottom cross supports L. In some cases the side supports in addition to carrying the ordinary terminals KG also carry an extra terminal for connecting the heat resistor unit to the motor. This I do in cases where the motor operates at lower voltage than'the main supplements the motor resistor unit. For example, if the motors are wound standard for 110 volts and it is intended to operate a blower on a 220 volt line, the third terminal on the heat resistor unit is placedmidway of the wiring thus giving approximately 110 volts to the motor.
