UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. GRADY, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY, ASSIGNOR TO AMERICAN CREOSOT- ING COMPANY, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY, A CORPORAIIOB1 03"'` INDIANA.
Application mea August 5, 1927.
The invention relates to the construction of the tram or bolster arm cars used in connection with tie or timber treating plants.
The invention will be readily understood from the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of the car;
Fig. 2 an end view;
Fig. 3 a perspective view of a clearance plate;
Fig. 4 a plan View of a modified form of clearance plate; and
Fig. 5 shows the location of the thus modified plate.
The tram cars now in common use comprise a running gear on which are mounted a pair of holsters having upwardly extending arms. In practice, the cars are loaded with ties by a travelingcrane, which picks up a sling load of ties from the stock pile and deposits this load in the car, the ties extending longitudinally of the car and between the bolster arms, 3, 3. In order to remove the cable from beneath the load after it has been lowered into the tram, it is necessary 'IR-AM CAR FOR WOOD-T REATING PLANTS Serial No. 210,924.
that a clearance space be left between the load and the longitudinal sills, 4, 4, of the tram car.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, I provide this clearance space by locating clearancev plates 2, 2, on the holsters at each end of the car sills 4.
These clearance plates may be of any suitable shape, such as is shown in Fig. 3, one clearance plate being located at each end of the two car sills. y
While I prefer to use these shorter clearance plates, longer plates such as are shown in Figs. 4 and 5 extending across the tram, may be used. f
I claim: g
A tram car for 'wood treating plants comprising running gear, longitudinal sills and transverse bolster-arms comprising clearance plates located at the ends of the sills on the bolsters.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature.
WILLIAM H. GRADY.
