An object of the inventioii is to provide an improved cabinet for the reception of small articles of merchandise such as shoes, foodstuffs left by tradespeople, mailing matr ter and the like, which will facilitate service to be rendered to the owners of said cabinet and which so constructed that the same may be readily adjusted to operative position on the door or wall and collapsed with respectthereto so thatthe cabinet will be confined between the two outer surfaces of said. door or wall. 1

The above and other objects will appear more clearly from the following detail description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, which illustrates a preferred. embodiment of the inventive idea i i In the drawing- Figure '1 is a view of a door showing the improved cabinet applied thereto;

Referring more particularly to the drawing the numeral 11 indicates a door which may be of any desired construction and ma- 1 terial and which, for the purpose of mounting the cabinet in position, is provided with an opening 27 in which are hingedly supported the side members 28. of the cabinet in such manner that said members may be swung inwardly into the opening and assume the position shown in Figure 3. Directly beneath the lower edge of the opening 27 in the door hinges 29 are provided and have connected thereto the bottom member 30 of the cabinet which may also be swung to a vertical position within the opening 27 and disposed outwardly of the side memfragmentary perspective eral movement of the latter. the front member 31 may be retained in a bers 28, the offset arrangement of the hinges 29 permitting of such disposition. The cabmet further consists of a front member 31 hinged to the bottom member 30 and provided along its upper edge with a keeper 32 adapted to be engaged by the bolt of a lock 33 secured to the closure or cover 34 of the cabinet; This closure is hinged to the inner side of the door adjacent the upper edge of the opening 27 therein and is capable of movement to a vertical position, as shown in Figure 3, in alignment with the inner surface of the door so to have the appearaiice of forming a continuation of said surface when the cabinet is collapsed. The cabinet may be locked in the latter positionby engagement of the lock 33 with the keeper 35 secured to the door and receivable in a notch 36 formed in the bottom member 30 ofthe cabinet when the latter is in its operative position.

i In order to support the front and bottom members of the cabinet in their operative positions the side members 28 have attached thereto, along their bottom and portions of the side edges of the bottom member 30 abut when the same is extended to the position shown in Figure 2. The front member 31 also engages the portions of the strip 37 secured along the front edges of the side members 28 and said member 31 carries pins 38 which project through the latter portions of the strips to interengage the front and side members and to prevent lat- In order that vertical position spring latches 39 are secured to the side members and their free extremities engage with said front member, as shown in Figure 1. When it is desired to collapse the front member said latches may be forced into recesses 40 formed in the side members and thus permit the front member to fold to a position on top of the bottom member 30. i

In addition to the closure 34 the cabinet is provided with the outer closure 41 hinged to the door and recessed within the opening 27 when said closure is in closed position. This outer closure may be provided with a lock 42 capable of being opened from the outside of the door so as to permit access to the interior of the compartment to remove and replace articles.

2. A cabinet capable 01' being mounted in an opening formed in a door or wall and including bottom and side members hingedly connected to the door or wall adjacent said opening to permit certain of said members to be moved to folded positions within the confines of said opening and also to allow said bottom and side members to be adjusted to positions forming a compartment on one side of the door or wall, and inner and outer closures for said compartment.

A cabinet capable of being mounted in an opening formed in a door or wall and includin bottom and side members hingedly connecte to said door or wall adjacent said opening to permitsaid members to be moved to positions substantially within the inner and outer surfaces of the door or wall, and also 'to extended positions to form a compartment on one side thereof, means for releasably retaining said bottom and side members in extended positions, inner and outer closures for said compartment, one of which is hinged to said door or wall, and means for locking said closures in closed position.

A cabinet capable of being mounted in an opening formed in a door or wall and including bottom and side members hingedl'y connected to said door or wall adjacentsaid opening to permit said members to be moved to positions substantially within the inner and outer surfaces of the door or wall, and also to extended positions to form a coiupartment on one side thereof, and inner and outer closures for said compartment, both of which are hingedly connected to said door.

A cabinet capable of being mounted in an opening formed in a door or Wall and including bottom and side members hingedly connected to said door or wall adjacent said opening to permit said members to be moved to positions substantially within the inner and outer surfaces of the door or wall, and also to extended positions to form a compartment on one side thereof, means for releasably retaining said bottom and side members in extended positions, a closure for said com; partment, a second closure therefor hinged to said door or wall, and lockin means for said second closure to retain tie same in closed position when said bottom and side members are extended and to lock the latter members in their folded ositions.

A cabinet capable of being mounted in an opening formed in a door or wall, and including a bottom member hinged to the door or wall, a front member hinged to the bottom member, side members also hinged to the door or wall, means carried by said side members for supporting the bottom and front members in position, a closure for the cabinet ivoted to the door or wall, means for locking said closure to said front member, and a second closure pivoted to the door or wall and through which access may be had to the cabinet from the exterior thereof.

7. A cabinet capable of being mounted in an opening formed in a door or wall, and including a bottom member hinged to the door or wall, a front member hinged to the bottom member, side members also hinged to the door or wall, means carried by said side members for supporting the bottom and front members in position, a closure for the cabinet pivoted to the door or wall, means for locking said closure to said front member, said bottom, front and side members, being capable of movement to folded positions within the confines of said 0 ening, a keeper carried by the door or wal and engageable by said lockin means when said members are in folde osition, and a second closure pivoted to' e'door or wall and through which access may be had to the cabinet from the exterior thereof.
