UNITED STATES CARROLL M. SMART, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
BANK-PROTECTING DEVICE.
Application filed. May 10, 1926. Serial No. 107,930.
This invention relates to bank protecting devices and the object of the invention is to provide a protection for a tellers window against bank robbers.
Another object of the invention is to provide a tellers window for a ticket otlice' or a bank which will allow the usual transaction of business but will prevent access to the tellers cage from without.
A further object of the invention is to provide a rotatable table by which articles may be passed through the tellers window, the tellers window being preferably made of bullet proof material so that it is impossible for a robber to shoot the teller.
Another object of the invention is to provide a turn table having an upwardly extending flange riding in notches provided therefor in the. tellers window, the table being divided into compartments by means of partitions which are adapted to pass beneath the lower edge of the window.
These objects and the several novel features of the invention are hereinafter more fully described and claimed and the preferred form of construction by which these objects are attained is shown in the accompanying drawings in which- Fig. 1 is an elevation of a tellers window showing my improved turn table as utilized therewith.
Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3.3 of Fig. l.
The teller's window 1 is preferably made of bullet proof glass and may be provided with a bullet proof speaking device 2 therein. The turn table 3, as shown in Fig. 3, is provided with stem 4 riding on the ball 5 in a recess provided therefor and having a recess 6 in the. end fitting over the ball 5. By this means the turn table is rotatably supported in position. The turn table is provided with a circular flange 7 and the bullet proof glass is notched at S on each side to provide clearance for the flange 7. This bullet proof glass extends downwardly into the rotatable table and the rotatable table is divided into compartments by means of the partitions 9 which are equal in height to the space between the lower edge of the glass and the bottom of the turn table. During rotation of the turn table these partitions are moved beneath the lower edge of the bullet proof glass 1. As shown in Fig. 2
a spring pressed ball 10 is provided in the adjacent wall of the tellers cage and the flange 7 is provided with two notches 11 in which the said ball is adapted to seatas shown in 2. j r
To use the device the depositor places his bank book and deposit in the compartment 12 shown in Fig. 2 at which time the teller gives the table a half turn to move the de posit into his cage, the table being stopped after a half turn by the spring pressed ball 10 engaging in one of the notches 11. After the teller has entered the deposit he places the book back in the compartment and gives the table a half turn to return the bank book to the depositor. The table is preferably made of cast metal so that it is impossible for a robber to shoot through it and the flange 7 offers further protection in closing the space between the bullet proof glass and the partitions of the turn table so that there is no visible opening. l/Vhile I have described this device for use with a receiving tellers window it will be readily understood that it may be utilized in a paying tellers window, pay masters window, ticket win dow and in other places where protection is desired for the teller.
From the foregoing description it becomes evident that the device is very simple and efficient in operation, will not easily get out of order, aifords complete protection to the teller and provides a device which accomplishes the objects described.
Having thus fully described my invention, its utility and mode of operation, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patents of the United States is- 7 1 In a bank protecting device, the combination with a vertical partition having an aperture of the wall thereof intermediate its height, of a metal tray mounted in the aperture to freely rotate on a vertical axis, the partition at the aperture extending diametrically across the tray, said tray having a series of inte ral vertical intersecting Walls providing a series of pockets lying in a horizontal plane and open at the top for deposition or removal of articles.-
2. In a bank protecting device, the combination with a compartment having a front wall consisting of upper and lower portions and a ledge therebetween, the said upper portion including a pair of frame members defining a tellers window, bulletproof glass extending between the frame members, the
lower edge of which is spaced from the ledge providing an aperture, a metal tray rotatably mounted in the aperture and having a series of integralvertical intersecting walls and a peripheral flange providing pockets open 1n the upper horizontal faces for deposition or removal of articles, the
said'flange being of a depth greater than the vertical Walls, and the glass thereabove ex tending diametrically across the tray and being notched to receive the said flange.
3. In a bank protecting device, the combination with a compartment having a front Wall the upper portion ofwhich is formed of bulletproof glass and the lower portion of which isprovided with an upper edge to support the glass, a portion of the said glass part terminating short of said edge providing an aperture, the said upper edge of the lower portion having a vertical recess, the
axis of which is in substantially the center plane oi" the said glass portion defining the aperture, a tray having a stern seating in the recess, a .ball in the recess 'lor rotatahly supporting the stem, the said trey having a peripheralflange-and vertical intersecting Walls extendlng horizontally across the surttaceo'l' the tray providing pockets openin a horizontal plane for the deposition or removal of artiClesQthe said edge of the glass sign this specifif
