J. HARRIS ELECTRICITY METER Filed Dec. 27. 1926 Patented May- 8, 1928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JESSE HARRIS, OF LA FAYETTE, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO DUNCAN ELEGTRIOMANO- FACTURING COMPANY, LA FAYETTE, INDIANA,-A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
ELECTRICITY METER.
Application filed December 27, 1926. Serial No. 157,229
My invention relates to electricitymeters which are provided with covers heldin place by rods carried by the meter bases, these rods projecting forwardly through the covers and having nuts threaded thereon which hold the covers in place. I provide an improved sealing means at the apertures reference to the accompanying drawing in which Fig. l is a sectional view of one form of meter with the cover thereon and Fig. 2 illustrates parts in separated relation.
The meter base in the meter shownis inclusive of a plate 1 formed with a forwardly projecting wall 2 to constitute a chamber. The motive element of the meter is suitably mounted upon the rear of a partition wall 3. The electro-magnets of the motive element of the meter, of which the current magnet 4 is shown, are upon the rear side of the wall 3, being surrounded by the wall 2 and enclosed within the chamber defined by said wall. The upright meter spindle 5 is positioned by bearings which are carried by.
the wall 3 upon the front thereof, as is un derstood by those familar with the art. The spindle "arries a non-magnetic metallic armature disc (5 which extends into inductive relation with the magnets.
The cover 4, commonly of is seated upon the front portion of the wall 2, a seal-- ing gasket 8 being interposed between the cover and said wall. The cover is held in position by two rods 9 which are carried by the base and project forwardly therefrom through the cover. Two nuts 10 are threaded upon these rods and press upon the cover to hold it upon its seat. The holes inthe cover through which the rods pass are 111- wardly flared at their innerends as inclicated at 11. Bushings 12 are received in these holes and are furnished with flanges 13 at theirouter ends against which the inmotor casing to obstruct the opert-ion ofthe meter. By flaring or laterally extending the inner ends of the bushings, they, together with the packing washers, are perinanently assembledwith the cover and the'fl'aring' inner ends of the bushings prevent the insertion of tampering wiresQ Having thus described my invention, I claim:
The combination with an electricity meter;
of a supportingbase therefor; a cover for the meter engaging said base; a rod projecting from the base and passing through an opening formed in the cover; a bushing in said opening and laterally extended upon its inner end, said 'rod passing through the bore of the bushing; a nut threaded upon the outer end of the rod and pressing against the outer end of the bushing where the bushiing is provided with a flange; and a washer surrounding the bushing and interposed between said flange and cover, 1
Invvitness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name.
JESSE- HARRIS.
