1. c. ROBIGK.
Apparatus for Tampering Butter.
No. 166,813, Patented'Aug-.17,1875.
N PETERS, PHUTQ-LITMOGHAPMER. WASHINGTON u c UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
JOHN G. RORIGK, OF WAUSEON, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR TEMPERING BUTTER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,813, dated August 17, 1875; application filed February 13, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN G. RoRIoK, of Wauseon, in the county of Fulton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Apparatus for Tempering Butter and 1 do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a side elevation of my device, and Fig. 2 is a sectional detail view of the same.
This invention has relation to means for warming water to be used for tempering butter in cold weather previous to working the same; and the nature of my invention consists in the apparatus for tempering butter, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawings, A designates a wood-burning stove, which is located inthe cellar of a building, and in which is a pipecoil, B. One branch of the coil'B leads up to a cold-water reservoir, O,wl1ich is conveniently arranged, and a cock, to, is applied to this branch for regulating the supply of water to the coil. The other branch of the coil B leads up to a reservoir, D, which is in a plane below the cold-water reservoir 0, and which is constructed with double walls b b, leaving an air-space, a, betweenthem, as shown in Fig. 2. The air-space will prevent a rapid radiation of heat from the reservoir D.
Fig. 2 shows a vessel, E, suspended inside of the warm-water reservoir D, which vessel is used in cold weather for preparing a compound which I use for coloring butter. The reservoir D is provided with a draw-otf pipe and cock.
It will be seen from the above description that, by opening the cock a, more or less water, in regulated quantities, can be admitted into the reservoir D after passing through the coil B and becoming heated.
By these means I am able to heat water rapidly with comparatively little fuel, and to regulate the temperature of the water as circumstances require.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In an apparatus for tempering butter, a furnace, A, and a cold-water reservoir, 0, in combination with a warm-Water reservoir, D, having double surrounding walls, and an annular space, with a suspended vessel, E, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN O. RORIOK.
