My invention relates to a transportable dispensing apparatus, and more particularly to a simple truck for handling w1th fac1hty and dispatch a barre'l or cyhndrical receptacle equipped with a dispenslng pump. As constructed this device permits a metal barrel 0r cylinder to be aflixed thereto in a simple and effective way and to rest in a stable upright position upon the floor or ground for dispensing operations. A false head for the barrel carries the dispensing mechanlsm, and this head with its attached mechanism is sold and used together with the hand truck to enable the urchaser of a barrel of oil or grease to readlly dispense the contents in measured quantities directly from the barrel, and to uickly replace the empty barrel with a full arre whenever requlred.

A commercial practice at present 15 to shlp oil and grease in metallic containers or barrels 2 having end chimes or flanges 3-3, a closed head. 4 at one end, and an open head 5 at the opposite end which is closed for shipment by a suitable cover, not shown.

Head H forms a fixed part of a dispensing pump P having an intake tube 10 depending therefrom and rovided with short projections 11 at its Bottom adapted to rest in shallow depressions 12 formed in bottom head 4. Thus,

the pump which is made of cast metal and quite heavy, is supported in a stable immovable position at its top and bottom by false head H and lugs 11, and false head H is formed with an annular flange 14 which overlaps the upper chime 3' and holds the the barrel will be locked in false head against lateral movement during cranking operations of the pump. Barrel 2 is immovably supported in an upright position during dispensing operations, although affixed to truck T having a pair of wheels 15. Thus the truck comprises a pair of tubular handles 16 which are socketed at their lower ends within the hollow enlargements 17 of a pair of fiat cast metal brackets 18' having lateral openings 19 rearwardly of the enlargements to receive a round shaft 20 for wheels 15. Pieces of pipe 21 are sleeved on shaft 20 to serve as spacers for the wheels and handles, and brackets 18 extend downwardly and forwardly and are connected rigidly together by a' flat stra 22 having angular extremities bolted to t e inside faces of the brackets in alignment with the handles, thereby providing a flat rest for an arcuate section of lower chime 3 of the barrel. The shaft and pipe thereon serve as a stop and also a rest for the barrel when it is seated on strap 22, and a short plate 23 riveted to strap 22 on the longitudinal median line of the truck projects rearwardly a short distance and is formed with a vertical lip 24 to engage the inner side of chime 3 so that lace when placed at rest upon strap 22. T e barrel is thus seated on its chime and locked in place by lip 24 en aging the chime, being further held remova ly upon the truck by a clamping rod 25 which partly encircles the upper part of the barrel and engages ears 26 on a curved saddle 27 sleeved upon the handles and fixed thereto by set screws 28. Thumb nuts 29 may be used to fasten rod 25 to ears 26, and one or both ears may be slotted to permit the rod to be dis-engaged by a lateral movement as indicated in dotted lines, Fig. 2. The barrel is nested within the concaved side of saddle 27, and rests upon connecting strap 22. It also bears against the axle so that it may be tilted by means of the truck and transported by rolling the truck over 100 the ground or floor. When lowered on end the barrel stands upright on the floor and the truck wheels are lifted slightly above the floor, the weight of the barrel being partly placed upon and borne by flat strap 22 which 105 then rests upon the floor. In tilting the truck to raise the barrel from the floor the initial turning movement is at strap 22, but. the wheels engage the floor before either the locking plate 23 or the bottom chime of the barrel can strike the floor, note bein taken that the strap and plate are located orward of the axle and the axis of the wheels.

What I claim, is:

1.
