This invention relates {re ainer-s or receptacles for liquid containers and for carboys, though it'is' noted that the in- 5 vention is not limited to'boxes nor in some respects even to receptacles for'carboys. I
and sidesso as to prevent breakage;
Another object of the invention is to provide a carboy carrier so designed as tore duce to a minimum the material required for making the same. v
Another'object of the invention is to provide an easily assembled and handled carrier in which the 'carboyunay be quickly and firmly secured; j
: Otherob'ects of the invention are toim} simplicity and safety of carboy carriers and to provide, a receptacle of this kindwhich is safe, durable and reliable in use and economieal to manufacture and into which the carboy may beeasily placed'and secured and frorn'which it may easily be removed.
Still other ob 'ects of appear as the description proceeds;
while herein-details of the invention are do.
the invention will scribed and claimed, the invention is not limited to these, slnce many and various changes may be made Without departing from the scope of theinvention as claimed in the broader claims.
The'inventive features for the accomplishment of these and other objects are shown herein in connection with an improved carboy' receptacle or carrier which, briefly stated, includes arectangular boxhaving a upper and lower blocks across their ends carrying corner springs bridging' the blocks at each corner. Upwardly .pointedlower v wedges and downwardly pointed 1 upper wedges of soft woodseatedbetween the ends of the corner sprlngs respectively andthe gaging the carboy:wher eby inequa1ities of the carboy'are impressed in the corrugations to'prevent breakage A to'p'board secured more particularly to receptacles or'shipping boxes and spring seat on its bottom on which the car-1 boy rests and provided with corner members 2 comprising corner posts of triangular cross sectionfin respective corners which carry.
carboy are provided with; corrugations enover. the top of the biox -is provided with ll opening receiving the neck of the carboy.
;-In the accompanying drawing,'-showingV byway of'exa mple, one of many possible: embodiments of theinvention, Fig; 1 1s a vertical sectional view, .taken on a vertical plane passing corners of the box 1 e v e Fig. 2,1sa horizontal sectional View,
through opposite partlyv in'plan', taken: on the line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a box Y Y Fig. 4 is a plan;and I Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing an aSselnbled cornerniember. 2 'My improved container-or carrier for carboys or other liquid containers ic omprises a frame or box 5 having bottom and side walls 6 and 7 and jstrips 8 forming shoes under} front or a side elevation the the edges of the bottom of the box and horizontal. strips 7 9 forming handles secured across the mid part'of the outer face of oplposite side walls, 7 of the box, though the invention] is inno way limited-tothe construction or details of the box.
A bottom ,disklO is sec'uredconcentrically on the inner face of the bottom wall 6,'- and a plurality of superposed horizontalboards I are placed on said disk, each layer being disposed so: that the grain runs at right angles to the grain in the adjacent'layers as;
indicated at12, Fig. 2, to cooperate to form a bottom spring or cushion seat for the carboy 15. a
'Upwardlypomted lower wedges 22 fitted between said beads 21:."at the lower end of each corner thenbottom wall are provided withv longitu- 'dinally corrugated exposed faces 23 against spring with their butts against 1 I removing from the top boar or the upper lower and 19" maybe nailed to the upper and lower and the vertical wedged between the "car-boy and the corner spring are provided with longitudinally QlTElIglfiQd: QXPQSQClJ faces: 26; engaged: with the Carboy. 'Said wedges are made! of. soft wood, whereby the inequalities of the Carboy are impressed into corrugations 23-and 26* to avoid breakage and-to hold the carl'ioyv firmly. I i V A top board 28, made in sections it desired, is secured'over the top oi the box against the upper corner blocks'lS, the. ends? I h s of the upper; wedges 25, and 1s provided w th a, large of the posts 16 and the bu opening 29 receivi ig the neck and-sl iou'lder of the carboy, id 'openingbeing, torn ed by i th material which may be used for the disk 10.
The various parts of the carrier ay be made of any suitable lumber or mateial,
though the boards 11 and wedges 22 and'25" are preferably made of'soit wood.
To pack the car-boy the corner elements shown in Fig. 5, exclusive of the corner posts, may be assembled and nailed together, except that the top wedges 25 are left out until the above mentioned elements first, and then the carboy, are lowered into the box, after which these. wedges are forced, into place and' nailed. Thetop boards are. then nailed on, thus holding the corner members in place; spacing blocks 1 8 ends of the corner posts,
spring pieces and lower wedges nailed in place after which the car-boy n' ay be lowered and the upper wedges inserted and nailed.
hen the Carboy is packed as noted above the carboy may be removed by. pulling out upper wedges and withdrawing'the Carboy. It-the first noted above'method is used, in packing, the corner spring assemblies may be lifted out for inspection. This construe tic-npermits repairs to be made'onthe frame of the box without injuring spring assemblies, and oldspring assemblies may be re.- pl-aced' with new ones without frame of the box.
