Description

G. D. MUELLER RAIN COAT Filed March 2,2. 192
INVENTOR ATTORNEY WITNESS I Patented Mar. 27, 1928.
UNITED STATES GEORGE D. MUELLER, OF AKRON, OHIO.
RAINCOAT.
Application filed March 22, 1927. Serial No. 177,356.
My present invention has reference to a leg protector for rain coats.
My object is to provide a rain or similar coat with light protectors which, when not required for use, may be folded and clamped upon the inner face of the coat, each of said strips having means at the confronting edges thereof whereby each strip may have its edges connected together. to provide each a leg member, the said means on each strip hem engageable with the means on the edges of tie adjacent strip,-whereby both str ps may be connected to provide a depending skirt for the coat, the strips being of such length as to extend beyond the lower edge of the coat to amply protect the legs of the wearer when the strips are employed 'as leggins or as a skirt. I
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a. view of arain coat or similar garment provided with the improvement, the 2 garment being open, and one of the strips being shown clamped thereon and the other depending therefrom.
Figure 2 is a similar view but showing the.
manner in which the strips may be folded 39 and connected to provide leggins.
-Figure 3 is a view but illustrating the manner in which the strips may be connected together to provide a depending skirt for the garment.
Referring now to the drawings in detail,
the numeral 1 designates a rain coat or similar protective garment. The coat is of the usual construction but the same has attached thereto on its inner face and adjacent to its 40 lower edge flap extensions 2 formed approximately centrally on substantially rectangular strips 3. The strips are of water proof material and the strips adjacent to their edges are provided with series of interengageable clamps 4. The inner face of the garment is provided with clamps 5 to coengage with the end clamps on the strips whereby the strips may be arranged upon the inner face of the garment when folded 5e thereagainst.
As disclosed by Figure 1 of the drawings, the flaps 2 of the strips are attached to the inner face of the back of the garment slight- 1v inward of the sides of the said garment against the garment. Also additional means 5 for engaging other clamping means at on the strips than those described may be employed.
When desired for use as leggins the strips are released from the garment and are swung downwardly therefrom. Each strip is "folded upon itself and then the attaching clamps 4 are connected after the said strips have been wound around the legs of the user, as disclosed by Figure 2 of the drawings. lVhen the strips are to form a skirt the attaching elements 4 at the confronting edges of the strips are first connected and thereafter the attaching elements 4 at the outer edges of the strips are connected together. A skirt thus provided will afford ample protection for the legs of either male or female users of the coat, which, and the simplicity and advantages of the construction will, it is thought, be perfectly apparent without further detailed description.
After the protector has'been worn and detached from the legs of the wearer the same is reversely folded and then swung upwardly in the coat and attached thereto, as disclosed by Figure 1 of the drawings. This protects the wearer from the wet surface of the protector. When thus folded and secured the device is arranged rather high up in the coat, that is, a suitable distance from the lower edge of the coat so as to not interfere with the free walking of the wearer.
Having described the invention, I claim A garment comprising a coat having pairs of spaced fasteners at the inner face thereof, and strips of water-proof material, each having its upper edge formed with a central reduced extension whose end is secured to the inner face of the garment between the respective pairs of fasteners therein, each of said strips having their edges provided with male and female fasteners designed to cooperate with the strips when folded upon themselves and lapped to afford leggins and when the strips are spread and connected together to provide adepending skirt for the garment and said fastening elements also desi ned to cooperate with the first mentioned elements when the strips are folded upon themselves and arranged within the garment.
In testimony whereof I atfix my signature.
55 so that the confronting edges of the strips may be" connected together when folded GEORGE D. MUELLER.
