1y known as the splash side, this latter plate in reality comprising the outer wall at the inner side of the oven adjacent the open burner top. Usually these plates are enameled to enable the easy and ready removal of stains occasioned by the boiling over or splashing of food While in the course of being cooked on the burners of the open burner top.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a splash back and splash side whereby the fastening of the splash back is at the rear of the range and the joining of the splash back and the splash side is both smooth and sanitary, as well as pleasing to the eye.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a novel form of construction at one end of the splash back whereby the connection between the s lash back and the splash side is beveled, t us joining the members in a smooth and sanitary manner.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a splash back of a construction whereby the splash back can be readily 85 and quickly assembled and attached to the range and the range oven after the completion ofthe oven assembly.
Other further objects, novel features of construction and improved results of the invention will appear in the herein appended description and the accompanying drawings.

Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a gas range showing the application 46 of the improved invention.
Figure 2 is afragmentary horizontal sectional view through the splash back, the splash side and the rear wall of the oven.
Figure 3 is a detail perspective view of the splash back, the splash side and rear oven wall, the parts being shown in unassembled or strung out relation.
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 44 of Figure 2, looking in the direction indicated by arrow.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the oven, B the splash back, G the splash side, D the frame of the open burner top, E the top shelf and F the oven hack.
Referring to the several arts and to the drawings in detail, it will e seen that the rear wall F of the oven is provided at its top with-a flange portion 5 slightly inset from the main back portion 6 and that this flange is provided with bolt holes 7. The oven top 8 is provided with a downwardly extending peripheral flanges or edges 9 and the rear flange of the oven top is adapted to be bolted to said rear wall of the flan e 5, with the oven top flange occupying t e inset above referred to.
The side splash O has a main body portion 9 and is likewise provided at its inner end with an inset flange portion 10 terminating in a bend edge or flange 11 at right angles to the main body portion. The flange 11 is adapted to be positioned in the longitudinal flange 12 at the inner side of the back wall and be securely fastened thereto by means of a bolt 13 and nut 14. For the purpose. of strengthening the connection between the spalsh side and the rear wall of the oven, the rear wall is provided with an edge 15 bent inwardly at right angles to the main body portion of the wall, as clearly appears in Figure 2 of the drawings.
The top of the burner frame D is supported to the range structure in any common Well known manner and abuts the bottom edge of the splasher plate as at 16, a flange 17 being provided at the lower edge of the splasher plate and provided with bolt hole openings 18 whereby this edge of the plate can be fastened to the' burner top rame.
The back splash main body portion 19' is provided with ofl'set flanges 20 and 21 at its upper and lower edges. These flanges are provided with openings 22 and 23 for the purpose of receiving bolts. The lower flange is bolted to the rear of the oventop frame D while the upper edge 1s adapted for connection to the rear edge of the top shelf, by reason of its flange 24. Ad-
I inner longitudinal edge of the splash side and this leg is of a length whereby the remaining leg portion 27 of the L is positioned in a plane parallel with but separated from the rear wall of the oven to rovide a space 30 of a depth equal to the thickness of the nut 14 carried by the bolt 13 which fastens the splash side and oven back together.
By reason of this construction the oven back and splash side can be bolted together and the splash back later attached, the L leg 27 being provided with suitable openings to receive the outer end of the nut 13 and being clamped in place by a nut 31. When the nut 31 is turned down, the inturned edge 29 will engage the rear of the oven and cause an outward tension to be placed upon thenut 31', thus in effect locking the nut against loosening.
As clearly appears in the drawings, the upper and lower flanges 20 of the s lash back stop short of the inward bend wiereas the top shoulder 21 and also the lower shoulder 21 continue with the bend or taper, being designated at 32. The shoulder portion 32 is tapered with the bend and terminates at the rounded corner 28.
The shoulders or fins 32 greatly strengthen the splash backat its point of taper and additionally serve another purpose. The fin at the top of the splash back forms a continuation of the longitudinal support for the top shelf E whereas the lower fin of the splash back engages the upper face of the corner of the open top burner frame D and supports the splash back bulged end portion. The end wall 33 of the top shelf is adapted to be bolted to the down-turned edge 19 at the inner side of the oven to 8. For the purposes of appearance, a s elf back 37 is provided which extends not only throughout the length of the top shelf but also throughout the width of the oven top at the rear edges thereof.
By reason of the foregoing construction a flush connection or joint is formed 'between the splash back and the splash side and a rounded corner is presented to the eve rather than a square corner. This greatly adds to the appearance of the stove and makes the stove much more sanitary as the splash lates are more easily cleaned. Additiona y by reason of the construction dea splas scribed, it is possible to attach the splash back and top shelf to the range after the oven has been assembled.
It will be readily seen that the back splash provides a simple and cheap manner of attaching the top shelf. The horizontal flange 21 of the splash back aflords longitudinal support at the rear edge of the to shelf, while the upper fin 32 supports tie rear inner corner of the shelf. The in-shaped flanges additionall strengthen the bul ed portion of the bac plate so that the p ate does not easily warp by reason of the heat from the cooklng top burners and oven.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is 1. A range construction comprising a cooking top having an oven at one side and a splash plate at its rear, a beveled connection between the splash plate and the oven, and the bevel forming said connection being an integral part of said splash plate.
2. A range construction comprising a cookin top having an oven at one side and plate at its rear, and said splash plate provided with an inwardly extending bulge adjacent its inner end, whereby a bevelled connection is provided between the splash plate and the oven.
3. A range construction comprising a cooking top having an oven at one side and a splash plate at its rear, said splash plate provided with an inwardly extending taper 1 adjacent its end, said tapered poriiitipl adaptcorner a e unc-- ed to provide a rounde ture of the splasher plate and the oven, and said tapered portion provided at its upper and lower ends with a strengthening flange, for the purpose described.
4. A gas range construction comprising a cooking top having an oven at one side and a splas plate at its rear, said oven provided at its rear inner corner with adepression,
the splasher plate provided adjacent its end with an inwardly extending taper terminating in an L-shaped fla e, and one leg of sand splash plate flange a apted to seat within the oven depression, whereby the connec-' tion between said splash late and oven is tapered and the splash p ate and the oven wall are flush with one another.
5. A gas range construction comprising a cooking top having an oven at one side and a splash plate at its rear, said splash plate provided adjacent its end with an inwardly extending tapered bulge adapted for a flush connection with the oven, horizontal flan es at the upper and lower sides of said splas er plate, said horizontal flanges terminating in vertical flanges, the upper flanges of the plate adapted to receive and support a top shelf, and the lower flanges of the plate adapted to engage the cooking top for supporting the plate in position.

A range construction comprising a cooking to having an oven at one side and a splash p ate at its rear, the inner side and back walls of said oven having overlapping bolted connection, the splash plate bent into an L-shape at itsend, one leg of said L adapted to engage the oven side and the other leg to parallel the oven back, and said last mentioned leg provided with openings to receive the oven bolts for the purpose of fastening the splash plate in place.
7. A gas ranged construction comprising a cooking top having an oven at one side and a splash plate atits rear, said oven,
side and rear walls bolted together by a bolt extending outwardl therefrom at the rear of the oven, the sp ash plate bent into an L-shape at its end, one le of the L adapted to arallel and engage t e oven side and the ot er leg of the L to arallel the rear wall of the oven, openings 1n said last mentioned leg for the passage of the oven bolts, and said last mentioned leg provided with an inwardly bent longitudinal end adapted to engage the rear of the oven for holding the leg in separated parallel relation thereto.
8. A splash plate for the rear of the cooking top of an oven, comprising a main body portion having L-shaped flanges at its uper and lower edges, an inwardly extending Eulge adjacent one end of said plate, said bulge terminating in an L-shape bend, and
.the upper and lower edges of said bulged portion provided with a tapered flange positioned at right angles with the bulged por- Y tion, for the purpose described.
9. In astove structure, a splasher plate for the back of the burner top, a splasher plate comprising the inner side of the oven, said back splasher provided with an inwardlv extending bulged tapered portion having flanges at its u per and lower ends the oven plate provide with an inset ad acent its inner end, the bulged portion of the back late terminating in an L-sha d bend, one eg of which is ada ted to seat within said oven plate inset an the other leg to parallel the rear of the oven for connection therewith, the flange at the upper end of the bulge adapted to strengthen the plate at this point and provide support for a top shelf, and the flange at the lower end of the bulge adapted to seat upon the cookin top for supporting and strengthening the ack plate at its lower corner.
