A. B. BRADLEY HAND WASHER FOR dno'mm Filed Feb. 11. 1927 44270 rages,
Patented Mar. 20, 1928.
ADDISON B. BRADLEY, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
HAND WASHER non CLOTHES.
Application filed Februaryll, 1927. Serial No. 167,449.
This invention relates to a device which will be particularly adapted for washing wrist bands, neck-bands, and the worst soiled portions of clothes to be laundered, by gathering and holding those parts of the garment in favorable position in one hand, while rubbing and scrubbing them with my invention, held in the other hand.
The object of the invention is to provide a scrubbing device which will hold the suds and water from splashing away and force it back and forth in every direction with more or less suction to loosen and remove the adherent dirt.
Another object is to provide a metal scrub her that will be light, durable, and inexpen- 'sive to make; hollow so it will float in water and be light to carry; and easily wiped dry after use, making a convenient article for travellers to carry with them in a handbag and to use for light washing in hotel rooms.
I accomplish the above, and other objects which will hereinafter appear, by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing,in
which- Fig. 1, is a view in side elevation, and partial section on the line 11 of Fig. 3 of my invention.
Fig. 2, is a top plan view of the same, and
Fig. 3, is an underside view.
Like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views of the drawing.
The washer is preferably spun out of two sheets of aluminum, that metal being desirable .on account of its light weight and noncorrosiveness. The lower portion has cylindrical sides 4, with an outturned top flange 5 the purpose of which will presently be ex plained. The bottom of this lower portion is the rubbing surface and is formed by a series of concentric corrugations into annular ribs 6.
The upper portion of the washer comprises a hollow knob-like formation so reduced in diameter from the above described lowerportion as to be conveniently grasped in a womans hand, with the thumb and fingers entering a channel 7 and the cap 8 of the knob bearing against the palm of the hand. 7
The channel 7 iscontinued to form a flat ring 9 which terminateswith a down-turned marginal flange shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1, which is turned in after the assem-.
bly of the upper and lower portions, with the flange 5 against the ring 9, to' form a lock-seam as shown, which permanently unites the upper and lower portions of the erally by being held in the channels between the ribs and is dashed back and forth through the fabric. A suction action is developed by the channels and particularly by the central cavity 10, with the result, altogether, that the part being scrubbed is rapidly cleaned.
The invention is very efficient for washing the most soiled places preliminary to subjecting the garment as a whole to the action of the usual washing machine.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and wish to secure by Letters Patent is A clothes washer comprising two cup shaped metal members with adjacent rims lock-seamed together, one of said members being formed for convenient grasp and firm hold by the hand of the user and the other member having a rubbing surface with a central depression and a series of corrugations concentric with said depression forming annular ribs extending from the depression to the outside limits of the rubbing surface.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ADDISON B. BRADLEY.
