UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL M DELL, F BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR TO SAMUEL M. DELL 170.,
' INC., OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
COMBINED DISPLAY CARD AND CABINET.-
Application filed January 27, 1926. Serial No. 84,138.
This invention relates to what may be termed a silent salesman, and comprises a receptacle in which a stock of the goods may be stored, as well as a display front on 5 which a plurality of the articles may be mounted for inspection by the prospective purchaser.
An object of the invention resides in the provision of such a device which may be supported on the counter of astore so as to permit ready access to the storage compartments by the sales clerk, at the same time presenting a full display of the sample arti cles, and yet appropriating very little of the counter surface.
A further object of the invention consists in novel method of reordering fill-ins for stock in the cabinet, namely, the retail dealer will order from the jobber by number rather than size.
A further ob'ect of the invention consists in packing the ll-ins in blue boxes, the same color as is in the cabinet. This avoids the possibility of a mistake in the jobber confusin his cabinet stock with his regular stock.
A urther object of the invention consists in a novel method of marking the articles with distinguishing numbers corresponding to their selling prices, and also placing these identifying numbers on the storage boxes and the prices on the display card at points corresponding to the positions of the various brushes.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cabinet showing the displa front, and "the cover in closed position; an
Figure 2 is a erspective view of the rear of the cabinet owing the cover supported in raised position.
Referring to the drawing in greater detail, the numeral 1 designates a box or receptacle which may be constructed of metal, wood, heavy cardboard or the like, and which is provided with a closed front side 2 and an open rear side 3. Within the receptacle are arranged a plurality of partitions 4.- proto receive boxes or the like 6.
The boxes 6 are supplied with a stock of the articles displayed on the front 2 of the receptacle as hereinafter described, and are viding compartments 5 which are'adapted' adapted to be removed by the salesman from time to time for supplying a customer. A closure comprising two hinged sections 7 and 8 is hinged at 9 to the top of the receptacle and functions to close the open rear of the receptacle so as to exclude dust or the like. Lugs 10 are provided for supporting the closure in open position, but these lugs may be omitted where found desirable.
The receptacle, as shown, is relatively shallow and is intended to be vertically disposed on a store counter with its open side 3 in position for ready access by the salesman behind the counter. The front 2 of the receptacle is disposed toward the customers, and is provided with a number of pairs of loops or other attaching means 11 adapted to receive the brushes or other articles 12 for display. These articles, of course, may be arranged in the form of a semicircle as shown, or in any other desired manner.
An important feature of the invention resides in a simplified method for designating,- by their selling price, the various articles displayed for sale. This is accomplished by imprinting on'the display card or front 2, at points adjacent the articles, the selling prices of the various articles, and applying directly to the respective articles numbers corresponding to their selling prices. For
instance, the brush selling for $1.25 is numbered 125; the brush selling for 75 cents is numbered 75 and so on. These selling prices and brush numbers are indicated on the drawing by the reference numerals 13 and 14 respectively; and the numeral 16 indi cates the same identifying number which is applied to the storage boxes 6 so as to facilitate selection of the articles by the salesman.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accom anying drawing it will be observed that I have devised a combined display card and storage cabinet of simple construction, which will occupy only a small portion of the counter, presents a full display of the articles, and isreadily accessible to the salesman. It will also be apparent that the present method of identifying the articles by numbers corresponding to their selling prices has many advantages which need not be set out in detail.
In accordance with the patent statutes I have described what I now believe to be the best embodiment of the invention, but I do not wish to be understood thereby as limiting myself or the scope of the invention, as many changes and modifications may be made Without departing from the spirit of l the invention; all such I aim to include in the scope of the appended claim.
\Vhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A dis lay cabinet provided with a plu- 10 ra-lity 0 compartments opening rearwardly,
stops adjacent the to of" said cabinet, and a closure hinged to tie top of said cabinet and adapted to close said compartments,
said closure comprising two sections hinged SAML. M. DELL.
