Description

Patented Mar. 13, 1928.
LENORE NEETHLING, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS;
METHOD FOR ORNAMENTING TEXTILES.
No Drawing. Application filed September My invention relates to an 1 improved method for ornan'ienting textiles, and has for its object the provision of an improved method of this character by means of which textile materials may be nicely ornamented by hand or otherwise.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the method of procedure hereinafter described and claimed.
The preferred method of procedure is to provide the desired design in pencil on a sheet of blotting paper. Then the textile to be ornamented, such as a linen handkerchief or the like, is stretched or spread over this design and secured in place as by thumb tacks or the like. Then the design is traced on the textile sheet, using a ball-pointed lettering pen and liquid dyes as the color medium. In this way any excess of the lit uid color medium applied to the textile will be immediately absorbed by the underlying blotting paper and thus prevented from spreading or running in the fibres or threads of the textile material. In this way clear and sharp outlines and designs may be formed on the textile material without danger of the color medium running or spreading and thus destroying thc sharpness and artistic effect of the design. Where backgrounds are to be inserted, and some blurring or merging of the color effects is desired, the color may be applied with a brush, but Where clear and sharp outlines and designs are desired it will usually be found preferable to employ a ball-pointed lettering pen.
If desired also, the design or ornamentation may be applied directly and in the first instance to the textile sheet without first sketching or outlining the design on the an derlying blotting paper, but, unless the opning of the color in the fibres or threads 23, 1925. Serial No. 58,128.
the design on the underlyingblotting paper.
By use of this method clear and sharp 4? designs or other artistic configurations may be quickly and artistically applied to various sheets of textile material Without previous preparation to prevent spreading or runof the material.
lVhile I have set forth the preferred i 7 method of procedure for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. 1, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim'as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is 1 i 1. The method of ornamenting textiles which consists in first preparing a design on blotting paper; stretching the textile over said design; and then tracing said design on said textile with liquid coloring matter by means of a ball-pointed lettering pen, substantially described.
The method of ornamenting textiles which consists in first preparing a design in pencil on a sheet of blotting paper; then stretching a sheet of textile material over said blotting paper and said design; and then tracing said design on said textile sheet by means of a ball-pointed lettering pen using liquid dyes as a color medium, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification. I
LENORE NEETHLING.
