BOTTLE CLOSURE.
Application filed June 15, 1926. Serial No. 116,174.
My invention relates to bottle closures and it has for its object to provide a closure for bottles and other receptacles which may be manufactured at little expense, the construction being suchthat the closure may be readily secured to or removed from a bottle or other receptacle.
Another object of the invention is to provide a cap for a bottle or other receptacle which has a bead adjacent an opening in the bottle neck, arms being pivoted to depending portions of the cap at diametrically opposite points at the neck of the bottle so that when the terminals of the arms which are bent inwardly are turned upwardly they will be'positioned in close proximity to the neck of the bottle and W111 press against the bead thereon to hold thelcap in position and when the bent arms are turned downwardly at their pivots they will be disposed at positions at the neck and bead which are less in widththan the distance between the bent terminals of the arms permitting the removal of the cap.
Other objects of the invention Wlll appear in the following specification in which the preferred form of the invention is de scribed. i j
Similar reference characters refer to simi- 30 lar parts in all the views, in which Figure 1 is a view showing a fragment of a neck of a bottle or other receptacle with my closure secured thereto, a portion of the cap being broken away to show the construction;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of Fig. 1 show ing the closure in section and the bent arms in position to permit of the removal of the closure from the bottle;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of Fig.2 with the closure shown in section on the line 3-3; and
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of Fig. 1 with the closure shown in section on the line 4-4.
4.5 By referring to the drawings it will be seen that a cap 5 is provided in which there is preferably dis osed a packing 6. The cap 5 has diametrically disposed depending sides 7 extendin downwardly in close roximity to the bee 9 on the bottle and w ichthen the cap 5 from the said bottle or receptacle.
Pivoted to the depending sides 7 of the cap 5 there are arms 11 which are linked together at 12, the said arms 11 having in. wardly bent terminals 13 which when the terminals are moved upwardly will press 05 against the under side of the head 9 at the points 8. The linked portion 12 of the arms 11 engages the neck 14 when the said bent terminals 13 are disposed against the under side of the points 8 of the bead 9, this position of the bent terminals 13 on the arms 11 and the position of the linked portion of the arms 11 being shown in this position in Fig.1 of'the drawings.
When it is desired to remove the cap 575 from the bottle or other receptacle the linked portion 12 of the arms 11 is raised, as indicated in Figs. 2 and 3, which will move the bent terminals 13 downwardly to a position substantially at right angles to so the axis of the bottle, as indicated in the said figures. Inasmuch as the distance betweenthe bent terminals 13 is greater when in this position than the distance between portions of the bead 9 disposed over the said bent terminals the cap may be readily removed axially of the bottle and there from, the arms 11 being in the position indicated in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings.
What is claimed is: In combination with a bottle having an opening and a circular bead at the opening,
I a cap for closing the openingprovided with two portions which extend downwardly to the sides of the head, the said portions then diverging downwardly, two arms pivoted one at the inner side of each of the portions. of thecap, the distance between the under sides of the arms at their ivots being greater than the diameter of t e bead, the
arms being curved substantially concentric with the outer horizontal curvature of the bead on the bottle when the arms are disposed at right angles to the axis of the hot- 5 tle which permits the said portions of the cap and the arms to be moved axially of the bottle over the bead, the curvature of the arms also serving to bring the terminals of the arms into engagement with the under side of the head when the cap is in position on the bottle and the arms are moved upwardly.
