MILK-BOTTLE RGE'r'rAr-inn." f
Application filed January. 2.4, 1927. i Serial Noff163y232.
This invention relates tol special receptacles and more particularly toa receptacle in which a milkV bottle may be placedand,
empty bottles 4are accidentally brokenforv filled bottlesy stolen and'also very often dust anddirt will accumulate upon the rim of a filled bottle and not properly washed o'belfore the bottle is opened or a filled bottlewill becomeA contaminated or knocked over and broken by an animal, such as a dog or a cat attempting to obtain access to the milk with-l in the bottle. f
Therefore, one object of the invention is to provide a receptacle inv which an empty bottle may be placed for removal by the milk driver who substitutes a filled bottle thereby preventing either the empty or'the vfilled bottle from being accidentally broken and in addition preventing the filled bottle from becoming spoiled by dust or reached by anibottle placed therein kwill be prevented from Y closing a Ventilating openingformed in the bottom.
The invention is-illustrated in the acconipanying drawing7 wherein Figure 1 is a view showingthe improved I receptacle in side elevation;
Fig. 2 is. a longitudinal sectional view through the receptacletaken on the` line 2-2 of-Fig. 1; f
Fig. 3 is a. transverse sectional view taken' v p f `held 1n engagement therewithby. an expandon the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. t is a perspective view of a resilientv ring forming a portion of a false bottom'.
The receptacle is provided with a hollow body portion ll'which is preferably of' a cylindrical shape andvmay beef any height and diameter desired according to the number of bottles Vwhich it is intended to hold. The lrear portion of the body which is formed with a flat. face is secured against the forward face of a hanger or backing iai@ '2. which ico'f greater height' than the ody and extends. abo-vethe `same as shown 'in Figs.. l and. 2;' '-,The .upwardly p-rojectY 'if desired, the receptacle locked. At the4 ingend portion of the hangeris preferably` en shaped to definefa head `3 having an opening i 4c formed therein Vthroii'gh which a nail or other suspending device *carried by a. sup-port'v may be passed to" suspend the receptacle in an elevated position or the head may beca formed with-several" smaller openings te` refy ceivej'screwsl or bolts, Aby `means ofv which the receptacle may be permanently attached to a wall or door frame at such an eleva-tion that it may beeasily reached by the milk 70 driverfbutinaccessible to` a'dog, .cat or other animal. Y By referring to ,Fig. 2 is' 'will be. seen that, when'forming the bodyfwi'th afiat farce to engage the forward face yof the baci ing Vplate,` a longitudinally extending slot is formed through whicha portion of `the forward face' of thelbackingfplate is'exe posed..` Thisportion of the backing plate carries a clip 5 formed of resilient wire' having its arms suitably anchored .to the backing 'plate 'an'dj' 'projecting upwardly, This clip is intended to. carry'laV card" or!y other record sheet 6V upon which a record may bekept ofthe amount of milk left every day during a weelnkmonth oir any lother pe- V i, riool of time.` The bottom 7 of the body is securely fastened therein in 'any desired ma-nner andy is "formedv with a Ventilating' opening 8 whichV occupies the major portion ,of its area and iscoveredI by a false bota0 tom or shield 9.' The falsefbo-ttoin or shield is-preferably formed of sheet metal having perforatio-ns lOlformed therein andits marf ginal portions bent downwardly to forma rests upon theV upper or inner'face of the bottom and holds the false bottom or shieldl in spaced relation tothe opening y8.. A fil-v tering sheet l2 formed of loosely woven'v lfabric orV anyV other suitabljematerial fits '10o againstthe under face oftheshield and ing ring '13 formed off a stra-ndi ofresilicnt wire.- The endso-f the strand. from which the expanding ring is4 formed are bent to 105 provide fingers le which may .be grasped' so that the ring may be contracted and easilyv inserted or removed from; the shield.` When in` place, the ring expands and has gripping engagement with the depending rim or flange and securely holdsv the filtering sheet in place but permits it to be easily re movedin order that it may be cleaned or aY new one substituted. Adjacent its upper end the Walls of the body are formed with- Y side openings .through which air entering the body through the lower opening may pass out of the body, and theseside openings are covered'by sheets of woven fabric 16 which serve to exclude dust'and are held passed.v c
in place Vby'rings 17 formed 'of V sheet metal and secured aga-inst' the ,walls about the openings by'screws or vother suitable fasteners 18.-- The cover 19 which closes the open upper end of the body is connected withthev backing plate by cooperating hinge members 2O so that it may be swung up-f. wardly from a closed to vanopen position Vand may-beprovided'with a suitable lock engaging a'keeper carried by the body or provided with a hasp adaptedto engage a keeper through which apadlock may be A"When theirecjeptaele is in use, it is secured against a door frame orwall at such yheight thatitcannot be-reached by animals and an empty milk bottle placed inthe receptacle will not be liable to be accidentally knocked over and broken.
` manv removes the empty'bottle'and replaces it with alled one, the cover is closed andif provided with a lock it may be securely fastlerests upon the falsey bottom, itA will be prevented fromclos'ingthe' opening 8 formed in the bottom 7 and air may freely ypass through the opening 8 into the bodyVV and upwardly about the milk bottle disposed therein and out through the side openings 15.`
This providesl a circulation of air through the receptacle and prevents the milk from being spoiled by the effect of warm air which would accumulate in a closed and unventiv lated receptacle. A number; of small openings 21 .havebeen provided about vthe walls ofthe body close to its upper end so that vair in the upper portion thereof which does not Vpass out through the openings 15 may esf amount delivered upon the card v6 which l 55 cape. When the vmilk man places one or more bottles in the receptacle, he enters the verified` by the lperson removing the bottles and by this means ya-record may be kept of the amount of milk delivered each week or month.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
