. Application filed December 16, 1926. Serial No. 155,302.
This invention relates to kick-01f mechanism for metal-coiling reels, and it has for its primary object to provide an improved form of device for mechanically stripping from metal-coiling blocks, or reels, the rolls or coils of metal which are wound upon the latter as they come from the rolls of the rolling mill.
In describing the invention indetail, ref erence is herein had to the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a front elevation of the'in-' vention; 1
' Figure 2 IS a section on l1ne 2 2, Fig. 1; Figure 3 1s an enlarged ,detall section taken substantially on line 33, Fig. 2;
and
Figure 4 is an enlarged top plan view of the yoke support and crosshead guide.
Referrln to said ClI'ELWIII 'S the reference numeral 1 designates each of two oppositely disposed supporting members or legs, upon the upper ends of which is rigidly mounted a table-like-bed 2. Said members 1 and said bed 2 together constitute a stand for the support of the working parts of the invention.
The bed 2, which. forms a mounting or rest for a horizontally disposed power cylinder 3, has a forwardly directed extension or bracket 4, herein shown as formed integral therewith, but which, obviously, may be made as a separate part and suitably attached to the bed. Saidbracket includes a pair of parallel vertically disposed fins 46 which have'upper oppositely disposed head portions shaped to form, in conjunction with thereto attached plates 17, confronting horizontal guideways or channels 5 within which are disposed slideblocks 6. Said slide blocks have loosely fitted thereinthe opposite ends of a pin 7 upon'which is fixed, as by means of a set screw 8, a crosshead 9 which is rigidly attached to the forward end of a piston rod 10. Said piston rod carries;
upon its opposite end a piston 11 which is reciprocable within the power cylinder 3.
Mounted on the pin 7 between the opposite'ends of the cro-sshead 9 and the slide blocks 6 are ends of parallel links 12 which extend forward from said pin and have their forward ends connected by a pivot pin 13 to the upper end of an arm or lever '14 that is pivotally mounted intermediate its ends betially parallel to the axis of the reel.
ment of the lever 14, imparted by rearward i the power cylinderv 3, the yoke is swung forward to the positionshown in broken lines in Fig. 2. In such forward movement of "the yoke, block like terminals 18 carried by the yoke arms engage the rear end of'the' coil of metal borne by the reel and forcibly thrust said coil forwardly from the reel.",
from the reel, the piston is advanced to, its forward position for actuating the stripping yoketo return to its retracted position.
The apparatus described provides mechanical means whereby coils of metal may promptly and positively be, stripped from the reel and by the use of which a substantial economy is effected. i
What is claimed is V Mechanism for stripping from a reel metal stand including lQgSISLll'IIlOUIltQd by a bed which is located above and rearwardly of the reel, a leverzpivotally mounted on said stand in a substantially vertical position and having a yoke formed on the lower end thereof'and adapted to be disposed in straddling relation to the reel, members forming horizontal guideways borne by said stand, slide blocks movable in said guideways and having-link connection with the upper end reciprocating movement of the piston ll of Following PP g 0f h Coiled metal" i coiled thereon, comprising a supporting 1 of said lever, a power cylinder surmounting said stand, a piston in said cylinder, a piston rod intermediate said piston and said slide blocks and actuating the latter where-' by is impartedto the lever a swinging movement for advancing the yoke arms substan 'In testimony whereof, I alfix my signa-' ture. 7 7
