My invention relates to an improved conduit-grounding bushing, the object being to produce a bushing adapted to be simply and effectively looked upon the conduit in any desired relative, rotary position and to provide for means for grounding and bonding the conduit.
With these ends in view, my invention consists in a conduit-grounding bushing having certain details of construction as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In carrying out my invention, as herein shown in Figs. 1 to l inclusive, I employ a two-part bushing consisting of an outer member or fiat plate 10 having oppositelyloeated, integral ears 11 and 12 having perforations 13, and a concentric, central opening 14 enough smaller in diameter than the outside diameter of a standard conduit 15 to engage with the end thereof, as clearly shown. in Fig. 2. The inner member or flat plate 16 of the bushing is thicker than the outer member and has corresponding, oppositelylocated, radial ears 17 and 18 having threaded perforations 19 corresponding to the perforations 13 aforesaid, and a concentric threaded opening 20 large enough to permit it to be screwed upon the threaded end of the said conduit 15, and therefore larger in diameter than the opening 14 of the outer member or plate 10. As shown, the bushingmembers 10 and 16 are coupled together by a screw 21 passing through the perforations 13 in the ear 11 of the plate 10 and into engagement with the threads of the perforation 19 in the ear 17 of the plate 16. Under the construction described, the outer and inner plates 10 and 16, with their concentric openings 14 and 20 of difierent diameters, virtually constitute a bushing for the finish of the conduit, whereby the wires passing through the same are prevented from being chafed upon its edge. By taking upon one or the other of the two screws or both, the outer plate 10 may be drawn into firm engagement with the end of the conduit in any rotary position of the bushing thereupon, as required by the exigencies of any individual installation of the bushing with respect to features exterior to the conduit.
In the modified construction, shown b Figs. 5 and 6, the outer member 10 has only the ear 12 and the inner member 16 only the ear 18, the ears 11 and 17 being omitted, and the plate 10 being furnished with an integral, hooked arm 25, hooking under the plate 16. The operation of this modified bushing is substantially the same as that described, except the entire function of clamping is devolved upon the screw 22.
I claim:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a conduit-grounding bushing, comprising an outer ring having an unthreaded concentric opening, an inner ring having a concentric threaded opening larger in diameter than the unthreaded openin of the outer ring which overhangs it, an two draft-members respect-ively connecting the said rings at diametrically opposite points thereon, one of these members being adjustable, whereby the overhanging inner edge of the outer ring may be firmly seated against the end of the conduit to secure close electrical union therewith.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a conduitounding bushing, comprising an outer ringi aving an unthreaded concentric opening, an inner ring having a concetric threaded opening larger in diameter than the unthreaded opening of the outer ring which overhangs it, and two draft-screws respec- 5 tively connecting the said rings at diametrically opposite points thereon,- one of these screws being achustable, whereby the overhanging inner edge of the outer ring may be firmly seated against the outer end of the conduit to secure close electrical union therem with.
