WATCHl-BRACELET END FASTENER.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in watch bracelet end fasteners, and the primary object thereof is to provide means for adjustably connecting an end of a watch strap to the fastener. As is well known in the art, in the instance of the use of' leather or other kstraps subject' to stretching such straps, after varying periods of use, become stretched so that the latter loosely fit the wrist of the wearer with' The invention further aims to provide a' device of this type wherein the parts arevof simple and economical structure and are compactly related so as to occupy a minimum of space.
The invention still further aims to provide a device of this kind wherein the pivoti ing means forthe guard of the hook of the fastener' acts to also limit movement of the strap clamp in one direction of movement of the clamp.
Figure 1 is a bottom plan of the invention applied to a strap, and
Figures 2, 3 and 4 are sections on line 2 2, 3--3 and 4-4 respectively of Figure 1.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention a fastener member is employed which is composed of a back 1 having a hook 2 at one end thereof, the sides of the back are bent inwardly or doubledk upon themselves to provide sides 3 of double thickness. The doubled parts are perforated and receive a transverse pin 4 therein.' A substantially L-shaped guard 5 is employed the front side of which engages the hook 2 and which is formed with an intermediate outwardly projecting lug 8 that is perforated to receive one endof a spring 6, the opposite end of the spring abutting Ythe back 1. The spring 6 is coiled about a sleeve 7 mounted on the pin 4. The guard is further formed with rolled eyes 9 that engage over the sleeve 7 thereby to pivotally mount the guard. A substantially L-shaped clamp 10 is provided with a serrated edge 11 which engages the strap S. The clamp is formed with pintles 12 which engage in openings 13 provided therefor in the doubled portions of the sides. 3. kThe sleeve may be dispensed with if desired.
By referring to'Figure 1 of the drawing, it will be noted that the rear ofthe guard is yprovided with a substantially semi-'circular cut-out 14 while the clamp is` formed with a forwardly projecting tongue 15 which is curved tot in the cut-out 14.
The tongue at its free end is bent outwardly at a slight angle so as to enable ya fingernail ofthe user to be engaged therebeneath. tongueV 15 overlies the pin 4fand its sleeve 7 and consequently the latter parts act to'li'mit movement of the clamp in one direction.
From the foregoing it will be noted that 'due to the nested relation ofthe parts 15 and 14 of the guard and clamp a compact assemblage of the elements isl afforded.
, In operation, it will be noted that the guard may be easily and quickly moved to permit the hook 2 to engage over the usual bail carried by the side of the watch and that by engaging the fingernail with the tongue 15 of the clamp 10, the latter may be disengaged so as to release the strap S thereby to permit of cutting and adjusting of the strap as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a watch bracelet end hook, a member having a back provided with spaced sides and a hook at one end thereof, a transverse pin secured to the sides intermediate the ends of the latter, a spring ten- Sioned guard for the mouth of the hook eX- tending across the latter and pivoted to the pin, said guard having its front side engaging the hook and its rear side formed with a cut-out, and a bracelet clamp consisting of a substantially L-shaped member pivoted to and between the sides of the back at the opposite end thereof and having av serrated bracelet engaging edge at one side thereof and having its opposite side formed with a forwardly projecting finger nail engaging tongue which latter is received in or ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, AssIGNoR To GUYOT BROTHERS j oo. ING., or` ATTLEBoRo, MASSACHUSETTS.
It will further be noted that the 1 and a hook at one end thereof, a transverse pin secured to the sides intermediate the ends of the latter, a spring tensioned guard for the mouth of the' hook extending across the latter and pivoted to the pin, said guard having its front side engaging the hook, and a bracelet clamp consisting of a substantially L-shaped member pivoted to and between the sides of the back at the opposite end thereof and having a serrated bracelet engaging edge on one side thereof and having its opposite side formed with a forwardly projecting fingernail-engaging tongue which latter overlies the pin so as to have its movement in one direction limited by the pin.
3. In a watch bracelet end hook, a member having a hoolr on one end t-hereof, a pin connected to the member intermediate the ends thereof, a spring tensioned guard for the mouth of the hoolr pivoted to the` pin, a'
bracelet clamp pivoted to the member to the rear of the guard, andoperating tongue for the clamp carried thereby and overlying the pin so as to have its movement in one direction limited by the pin.
4. In a watch bracelet lend fastener, a member having a hook on one end thereof, a spring tensioned guard for the hook, means to pivotally connect the guard to the memconnect the guard to the member and having its movement 1n one direction limited thereby.
5. In a watch bracelet end fastener, ak i member having a hook on one .end thereof,
a spring tensioned guard for the hook, means o to pivotally connect the guard to the member, said guard having a cut-out,a bracelet engaging clamp pivoted to the member to the rear of the guard, and an operating member having a hook on one thereof,
pivoted spring tensioned guard on the inember cooperating with the hook, a bracelet engaging clamp pivoted to the member to the rear of the guard andv disposed in substantially the plane of the hook, and an operating tongue carried by the clamp and arranged in substantially the plane of the guard and having a free front end disposed at a point between the front and rear of the guard.
7. In a watch bracelet end fastener, a member having a hook at one end and on a side thereof, aV tensioned guard on the member cooperating with the hook, anda bracelet engaging clamp pivoted :to said member on said side thereof and having an operating tongue which latter has a free end extending past the rear of the guard and has its free end curved outwardly.
In testimony whereof have signed my name to this specification.
